Birdsong question

Birdsong by Sebastian faulks is a novel about love and the trauma of the first world war , it really made me think about what these solders went through .There were sections of this novel that made me so sad and emotional that I could not stop thinking about what life was trully like in those trenches , not knowing if you would be alive tomorrow or even within the next few hours .
What books have really touched you , and have still been on your mind days later.
