Well, first they have to stop the shortening of telomerase (HeLa cells reproduce forever because it doesn't shorten with successive dividing), but of course there are many other things they'd have to stop and the list is enormous.

Honestly, do we really want that so that criminals and nefarious types just keep on living forever? It wouldn't only be good people.

I have mixed feelings on this as you can tell, even though I would be thrilled to not age! It's one thing in theory and another in practise ;).

Yes, there are a number of scifi books and shows that have that sort of thing :)
