In my hardcover edition, chapter 23 starts on page 113 with "Scarlett," and chapter 44 ends on page 222 with "I don't need your help."

Favourite scenes/quotes?
Any theories on where the book is going?
Do you think any twists or reveals are coming?
What would this book have to do in the final third to get a 5 star from you?

Nadja | 22 comments In the first third of the book I had the small suspicion, that Carly and Scarlett are the same person, but there where just enough small things to throw me off XD I really love the concept to see, what can make a person like Carly snap. As long as the ending is not totally dumb, this looks like a 5 Star read for me. I am not quiet sure yet, if I want her to get away with everything or not.

In love the scenes between Carly and Wes. But I guess something bad is going to be happening between those two.

I think that Jasper is going to betray Scarlett to the Police at some point, because he finds the diary she took from the crime scene. And because he worked for the victim at some point, he will recognise it.

Monica I had a sneaking suspicion that Carly & Scarlett might have been related somhow but there were enough details to throw me off. I like the idea of seeing how a person like Carly can be driven too this extreme. I am not sure if i want her to get off the hook quite yet or not.
I love the scenes between Carly & Wes and the scenes between Carly & Allison. I have a bad feeling though that something horrible happened between all of them.
I think Jasper might betray her and turn her into the police. He found the diary & he worked for the victim for a time before. Also he could do it to get back at her for rejecting him so much.

Vanessa | 4 comments I'm on Chapt 32, so not quite to the end of this section. We just had the reveal that Carly and Scarlett are the same person! I knew there was something more secretive about Scarlett. That she had some kind of hidden past, but I was not AT ALL leaning in the direction that they were the same person! I was wondering if somehow Carly was going to end up coming to Scarlett for help and that Scarlett was going to make Bash next on her list. And then Carly would become her apprentice of sorts! I have been really enjoying this one and look forward to what is going to happen in the last half of the book! We're at a pretty highly suspenseful point here, so where are things going to go?!

Justin Chen | 61 comments The reveal of Carly = Scarlett is pretty well placed. I'm glad the author didn't try to conceal it to be the BIG reveal in the end, because I definitely had my suspicion, and glad the story unveiled it before I was fully committed to the theory.

Jennifer | 14 comments I was surprised by the reveal that they were the same person I feel like it was well done. The bit about Scarlett seeing the two girls on Halloween and one had blue hair definitely made me think that it was two characters in the same timeline. I'm not into Jasper's boundary stomping he is giving me scary vibes.

Eli (elidhios) | 24 comments My theory was that Scarlett and Carly might join forces at some point, but this reveal was way better. Really enjoying the pace and the story

Knight | 1 comments 5 star potential for me so far! I love the writing, I absolutely did not predict the carly/scarlett same person connection! 🙈 and i like how the chapters flips back and forth. I’m really worried about Jasper...he crosses so many boundaries and doesnt listen when Scarlett says Stop or No so hes on my hit list 👀

I find Scarletts rage so retable, valid and honestly healing to read about even if it’s sometimes really hard. I wish that she was a little more careful/meticulous with the details cuz im rooting for her lol Im also here for the Queer

Baubie | 8 comments The reveal that Scarlett and Carly are the same person took me by surprise. I, too, was almost certain they were going to team up at some point but this was much better. Sad thoughts thinking of what else might happen to and/or witnessed by Carly in order for her to become the Scarlett we know. I worry about Allison. Anxious to see how it all comes together.

Dorian (doorfreeze) | 27 comments Ahhhhhhh! SCARLYYY! Took me by complete surprise....
loved it and hated it at the same time.

I’ve got a bad feeling about Allison... she’s not popping up at all In the Scarlett chapters so I’m guessing she’s gonna die somehow in the next little bit.. 😔

Noelle (spinningsilver) | 27 comments I read another book with a similar reveal where the different narrators where revealed to be the same person so I guessed it pretty early, but I didn't put together Alex and Kinnear.

Really enjoying it so far so I'm excited to see where it goes.

Aiva Orina (aivaorina) | 8 comments I definitely didn't see that Scarlett and Carly were the same person coming. This book is already a 5 star for me (unless something really dumb happens in the last bit)
but God it makes me so mad that all the "adults" aren't taking Allison serious. First the doctor then the Dean, damn I feel Carly's rage.
though I am excited to ready about Carly's first kill and how she makes the decision to kill more men.

Stavroula | 69 comments When I start reading this book I had the slightest suspicion that Scarlett and Carly are the same person, but as I kept reading I thought that this wasn't the case. So by the time the revelation came out it took me by surprise.
I don't know if there are any other twists. I think it's more possible that we'll see the metamorphosis of Carly into Scarlett.
I love the scenes between Carly and Wes. Also I don't trust Jasper at all.
So far I'm between 4 and 5 stars, so I hope the last part doesn't ruin it for me.

Summer (speaking_bookish) (speaking_bookish) | 30 comments All I can say is: FINALLY- a thriller that is actually thrilling, suspenseful, twisty.. I feel like it’s been FOREVER, since I read a thriller that didn’t just leave me feeling “meh” at the end.

I realized one chapter before the reveal that Scarlett and Carly were one and the same. It was the way Carly kept having thoughts of killing Bash (any guy with this name is begging to be killed, honestly) in different ways for what he did to Allison. And once that happened I stopped to think back to how I could have been fooled for so long and that’s when I realize what a genius the author is. I kept thinking wait, how can Kinnear be Alex... we know Carly was in the younger man’s class and that the younger man works with Scarlett in the here and now.. but that’s when I figured out that this isn’t explicitly true. The author mentioned Bright as being young and handsome and having the students call him by his first name so when that happened the first time Carly went to that class- I just assumed he was bright... and that’s exactly what the author wanted the reader to believe. It’s damn genius. I kept thinking but wait- Scarlett has been in scenes with him.. but no- she hasn’t. The presence of the young, handsome professor in the here and now kept me thinking that he and Alex from Carly’s chapters were the same person.
Damn. How smart. How twisty. And I fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

Now I’m excited to see what will happen with Kinnear’s death, Mina, jasper, how Carly finally steps over to the dark side, and what happens to Wes in this whole scenario.

Great book.

Mandy Kool | 81 comments I’m all over the place with how I feel.

I am loving this book, so that feeling is good. I still can’t put it down.

Am I the only one who was blown away by Carly/Scarlett being the same person?! And Kinnear being Alex? Woah. I love how the author even fooled us with that scene where Scarlett passed by the two girls. This is one of the first books in awhile that gave me a twist I didn’t see coming.

I did call the Bash/Allison situation.

There are so many questions I need answers to. I hate and love Scarlett. The Kinnear kill interests me and I definitely think Mina dodged a bullet by not taking things further with her.

I do wonder the timeline - it’s apparently 16 years so when was the stuff timeline-wise for Carly? I’m imagining early 2000’s? I remember texting was just becoming a thing then, and it was really expensive. So far, that’s my only confusion with the book and issue. But I can’t wait to finish.

If I had to rate it right now, it would be a 4.5/5. We’ll see if that changes.

Amanda (Smitten For Fiction) (smittenforfiction) "I have to be careful choking him from this angle". EEEEE...so creepy.

I was attending Uni in the 2000s and I texted all of the time, on a flip phone LOL It didn't cost extra, I guess it depends on where you live.

Amanda (Smitten For Fiction) (smittenforfiction) Fav scene: Killing Kinnear (what does this say about me?)

Theories: something bad happens to Allison, and I have a strange feeling Jasper has something to do with it and maybe Scarly kills him? I think Mina is going to figure it all out.

Hate the Dr and Dean, but it feels authentic to how many young women are treated when they report sexual assault isn't it? Sadly....infuriating. I can relate to Scarly's anger.

Very worried about Allison :(

Melanie | 33 comments My favourite scene is definitely Kinnear’s murder. When he first managed to escape I was so on edge, wondering how Scarlett would get away with it. I also love the scenes where Scarlett/Carly’s anger takes over; its very creepy and unsettling.

I think there’s a twist coming involving Wes; he’s not as nice as he seems. It’s odd that Allison was so adamant about him not knowing what happened. I’m guessing Carly ends up killing either him or Bash.

I guessed the first big reveal early on, so I don’t think this will get a full 5 stars from me. I’m really liking it though, and I’m of course hoping to be shocked.

Venessa (pebblecafe) | 17 comments Whoa! Only on chapter 31, but didn’t expect that!

Please move your comment in the correct section of the buddy read, as it contains spoilers for the ending of the book and I don't want others that are still reading the book to be spoiled the same as I was.

Alesha (musicgal17) | 46 comments Really loving this so far! I remember thinking in the beginning that Scarlett and Carly's names were super similar, and I also picked up on the fact that Dr. Kinnear didn't have a first name and Prof Alex didn't have a last name, yet I STILL didn't see the twist coming lmao. I'm glad I was able to be shocked though. At this point, something majorly disappointing would need to occur in order for this not to be a 5 star read for me.

Kim Kantor (kimkantor) | 37 comments I have been slowly reading this book so very late to the party, but I am really enjoying it. A bit like A Promising Young Woman. I wasn’t shocked by the Carly/Scarlett, but Alex and Kinnear being the same threw me for. Loop. I have an awful suspicion that Bash isn’t our bad guy with Allison. Even though Carly was with Allison when she told what happened to her, no names are ever said, just inferred. Could it be Wes? I’m probably so far off base but fun thinking of different scenarios. Going to finish this afternoon so we shall see! 😱🔪📖📚

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) | 43 comments The reveal definitely caught me off guard but it makes so much sense in hindsight
