Do you follow recommendation or choose books by yourself?

Both I guess. I sometimes check out recommendations but it doesn't mean I will really read the book.

Mostly by myself, while accepting recommendation, if it has something to do with a particular theme. For example, if I want to check some authors from Latin America, Africa or Asia, I would gladly accept someone's advice, as that's a part of world I'm not familiar with.

I'm interested in reviews, and recommendations, and the cumulative rating and the "official blurb" on the book. They are all pieces of the puzzle.

I choose books myself but if a close friend or family nonstop recommends a book to me then I'll read it

I normally choose books for myself, but am always open to recommendations. My Goodreads friends, the Google algorithm, and recommendations within the books I am currently reading tend to be my favorite.

I have such a large list of "to read" books that choosing the next one is never a problem. I take recommendations from others with a grain of salt. No one knows what I would like to read better than I do.

Probably both. I'll look at recommendations and look at reviews and things and then make a judgment call. So many books I'd never have heard of if I didn't see what others were reading.

Both. But I spend time every morning looking at what my Friends are reading on my notification feed on the Goodreads home page, and probably add 3 or 4 books a week to my Want to Read list.

I'd say I choose books by recommendation most times, however if I do happen to come across a good book I'd give it a try. Sometimes hype isn't everything, which applies to more than just books to be honest.

Both. A youtuber I like recommended this book and it was insufferable for the first 100 pages, but then the plot became so addictive and is probably one of my favourite books LMFAO.

Moral of the story: before you drop the book, read the first 100 pages!

I do both, but lately I mostly read group/club picks since I'm in a gang of goodreads groups that are book clubs.

A bit of both! I follow a lot of people that give good reviews but I also follow people that I feel give good reviews just because either; they got the book for free to review OR they feel like they owe it to the author. So, what I do is I take about 2-3 trusted reviews then I read the first chapter the book and thats how I decide.
