Okay so fantasy is not really my favorite genre but this book wasn't even really fantasy like "faeries." I was saying that I probably wouldn't recommend this book to someone, yet lo and behold literally last night I recommended it to a friend. I came with very low expectations for this book, but was pleasantly surprised by the how I liked the book structure and the character development.
Well... I guess I have to read the second book now too. For about 1/3 of the book I had no idea what was happening because the book followed a non-linear structure which was a little difficult to keep up with but it mellowed out towards the end. I am glad this series is short though so I can have that sense of gratification finishing a series by V.E. Schwab so quickly. A Darker Shade of Magic is probably going to be another adventure I will embark on in the near future...

The character development was so interesting and overall the book raised so many questions like is there always only one villain in the story, are things as black and white as they seem to be, how there can be a very fine line between good and evil (or ones perception of the two), ethics in the medical field, and so much more.
