David Haynes | 3257 comments Hi, I'd like to announce the release of my new book -

Beneath the Boards by David Haynes

Beneath the Boards

Beneath Jim Stokes’s shirt is a scar, one last horrific reminder of his old job in the police force.

Beneath the everyday normality of the village Stormark is a shameful secret, haunting people’s dreams.

Beneath the floorboards of the lake house is a hatch, sealed and forgotten for years until Stokes opens it up.

Beneath them all is blackness, and unheard screams, and scratching sounds in the night…

…and her whispers.

It's available on Amazon for 99c/99p and here's a multi region link.

David Haynes | 3257 comments I've had a couple of five star, reviews which I'm thrilled about. These are from pre release copies.
I hope you'll forgive me posting a couple of sound bites?

This story pulled me in from the very beginning and is full of action. Because most of it is from Jim’s point of view, we are drawn down into the nightmare he suffers, witness it from his point of view and learn the awful truth about the small community he has joined. It’s a great story, a classic horror...

If I could have read this from behind a cushion, I'm sure I would have. I found this to be a very creepy story. As I spiralled into Jim's madness, I felt myself physically tensing up, only relaxing my shoulders at the end of a chapter.

Thank you for your indulgence

Nice pitch. Causes me to think of Charles L. Grant and James Herbert.

David Haynes | 3257 comments Cheers, Bill.
Thanks, James. That was the feel I was going for so I'm really pleased to hear that. I only hope the story matches up to the pitch!
Jennifer, thank you! I hope you enjoiy it and look forward to hearing your thoughts, whatever they are.

Thanks on both counts, John! It's very different to A Gatheting of Ghosts but I really hope you enjoy it.

David Haynes | 3257 comments I won't update this thread again, unless something truly monumental occurs that is, but I've had a couple of really pleasing reviews today. I'm allowed a little bit of promotion aren't I?
No more though, I promise!

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) | 120 comments Hey, you should be happy with people who say, "I should confess that I'm a bit of a fan boy for this author's work."

Nice reviews. Congrats and good luck, with this.

David Haynes | 3257 comments Yes reading something like that is apt to put a big smile on your face for quite some time.
Thanks for wishing me well, it's appreciated.

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I'm a fan boy and don't mind admitting it :-)

John (frayerbanac) | 336 comments Finally finished Beneath the Boards, David. Loved it! So different from A Gathering of Ghosts! As someone else pointed out, there is a bit of a James Herbert feel to it (which isn't a bad thing), but your own lovely style shines through in this more modern story of the macabre.

David Haynes | 3257 comments Haha, cheers Michael!
Thanks, John - What a great comment! Thanks for your support.
