My apologies to everyone for not posting the link to this thread. I am apparently not firing on all cylinders today!

A fine, fine novel.
A fine, fine novel.

Sorry, Jessica -- see rule 2 in the rules that apparently not many people read.

You're right. I should have read the rules. And you should lose the attitude. Over and out.

I second your nomination Bill - looks like a really good read. 8:D

I don't think it's attitude Jessica - just frustration.

Yes, it is frustration. As soon as I opened this thread, I got several emails all asking the same question. It is tough to turn authors down, but the rules have been in place longer than I've been here. And we post them each month. I even put that specific rule in bold print this time around because last month we had someone use a fake account to try to get her nomination in after she was told that she could not nominate her own book. All I'm asking is that the rules be observed. If I had attitude, I apologize, but really, we do have established rules.

Actually, I owe you an apology. Two really. One for not following instructions and the other for snapping on you. I'm not making excuses, but my toddlers teething and I've have several sleepiness nights. Still, not an excuse for my rudeness. I can't be a moderator -running a book club of my own- but I would love to check out whatever book is picked.
No worries. I get teething toddlers -- been there, done that, bought the t-shirt more than once. It's okay.

Did you want it to go on the list of books nominated?"
Yes, but I must admit I am curious about the Kate Ellis book. Of course I'm curious about almost every mystery.

I'll make sure it is listed with the nominations. Thanks!

Isn't this the third book in a series? Would the readers miss out on anything if they don't start with the first book?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I just plucked it at random from the library. The book had enough back story to work for me even though I have never read the other two.

by German author Nele Neuhaus. I know the group has read "snow white must die" in the past. This is another excellent book.

Extremely strong authorial voice, great characters, terrific plotting. At the darker end of the crime spectrum, but never gratuitous, and humour too.
Disclosure of interest: I am the Judging Convenor for the Ngaio Marsh Award in New Zealand, which this author has won and been a finalist for several times, so I have met the author on several occasions.

Rosanne Nichols"

I will have to find a link to the award so I can post a list of former winners! Thanks, Craig!

"When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days—as he has done before—and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home."
This is the 2d detective novel with Cormoran Strike and his very capable assistant Robin Ellacott. It dives into the publishing world which JK Rowling is intimately familiar with.
Also second Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers. I know you don't need seconds but I think it would be fun to read.

Before anyone comments, the group read The Cuckoo's Calling in January of 2014, so this is an okay nomination since it's been over a year that we've read this author.

You can pose questions, you can make comments, answer people's comments, whatever. You may want to take a look at one of the current discussion threads and what goes on in there.

And once again we need to post the general rules for Group Reads nominations:
1) Important: If your nomination wins, you will be the discussion moderator. Please do not nominate a book unless you're willing to do this.
2) One (1) nomination only per person. Please read this next sentence carefully: Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.
3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.
4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. For the sake of expediency, here's the list ; just look back through November of last year going forward, and you'll know which authors NOT to include.
5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).
6) Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. The last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.
7) Finally, a word about series - Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series, or if it can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.
Have fun and good luck!!
