Personality: Grant is one of the most protective men you'll ever meet...if you're close to him and if you support the monarchy. He is, on the other hand, an introvert and likes to spend time alone on walks through nature, contemplating, or on walks outside in general to cool off when he's angry or think things through.
He is someone who holds grudges and doesn't let things go, and often casts blame where none is due, or takes small slights an situations and can blow them out of proportion. Naturally this can beea weakness in the military where her needs to keep his head, but thankfully he is not a confrontational type of person and an introvert, so he hardly talks with people more than he needs to and, if in a disagreement, will give you the silent treatment.
So he kind of has an ego and thinks he's right a lot, which he isn't always, but he cares a lot about children and has them as a soft spot, and is always willing to defend them and people who claim they have been wronged. Now, this doesn't extend too much to the caste system overall: he will help someone who is being hurt by their family but he believed the untouchables and caste 8/the lower castes deserve to be where they are because of how the system was formed in the first place, as that is what he was taught, and he is extremely loyal to the monarchy, crediting them with removing him from a stressful family environment.
He dotes on his younger sister, however, and she is his main weakness, as he will literally do anything for her, or if he cannot, he will try anyway.
If he loves you, Grant can be really kind, though he is polite anyway unless he dislikes someone

Headcanon/History: Grant was born to caste 3 in Kent, where his parents were professors at a local college. They pushed him to become as academic as he could, teaching him academically because they could. So, he grew up with a free and informative education and wanted to become a professor like his parents were. He grew up in a house with his parents, aunt, and grandmother, both from his mother's side of the family. His grandmother, Amalia, was terminally ill, so her daughters Emily and Audrey (Grant's mother), stayed to help her out, as did his father.
However, when Grant was twelve, his grandmother died, which devised him since he had always loved to sit on hr lap as a child and hear her stories of growing up, which always made him happy. Because of her death, and then his mother's from an explosion in a science lab at her college profession when he was thirteen, Grant became quiet and introverted. He'd always been, but now he never wanted to spend time even with his family, which he had always loved to do.
His aunt, Emily, and his father kept trying to get through to him, but Grant shut them out, blaming his father for what happened to his mother even though it was not his fault. Grant also thus became determined to protect his sister, Kailianna. He loved her so much more than anyone else in his family, and so was at odds with them the whole time.
He switched career paths and went to become a librarian instead since he could be alone, but he loved taking his sister with him and letting her look at the pictures in the books and hearing her chatter and get excited about them.
Grant also was always desiring to get away from his aunt and his father, since he was bitter at his father and found his aunt, his mother's sister, too painful to look at since they looked alike. So he spend all his free time either with his sister or at the library, or he would often go around the city and take walks on his own for fresh air and to clear his head.
He was in a relationship with another professor's daughter, Elia, from fifteen to seventeen, but T he was seventeen, however, Grant was drafted as a soldier, and he was stationed at the palace, to both his chagrin and his relief. He was saddened to leave Kailianna, then only five, behind, but relieved to get away from his father and aunt. And over the there years he was at the palace so far, he has done his best to work hard and defend the monarchy from Northern and Southern Rebels, as he wants to keep his position there to send money back to his sister. Well, and his guardians, but mostly he wants to help his sister achieve whatever caste 3 position she wants, as he is now a 2 after the draft. Grant credits the royals for saving him from a home he wanted no part in and has devoted his life to them.

History: Lilyanna was born as a normal child. Her mother died giving birth to her and her father left when she was 10. She then started work as a maid to earn a little money. She is extremely hardworking and puts all her effort into her work. Sometimes, she speaks out when she feels comfortable.

personality↛ (view spoiler)[ the male doesn't seem to have any strong beliefs or morals. honestly, it kind of just seems like he's being dragged along for the ride and is just doing whatever he's told. he seems more hesitant towards hurting children though. it's almost as if he doesn't have a will of his own, honestly. when he's not sure what to do, he looks to his owner/master and waits for orders. he doesn't talk much unless told to and while he's great at his job, he's not great at socializing. he can collect information, guard from the shadows, and kill, but when he needs to be present and by his master's side during events, he just seems awkward and nervous. but due to his job description also including that he must protect the crown prince, sometimes it's necessary. he can't say that he doesn't prefer when his master sends him out on a mission instead of having to stick by his side during those events. while loyalty may be a concern, it doesn't seem like it's a problem with him. he's being fed, clothed, housed, and he can bathe. he seems pretty content with that alone, even if it means he has to work in return. while his standards seem low, he's actually pretty impossible to appease. if you want to get this guy to flip on the crown prince and go to your side, it's almost impossible. you can't bribe him or anything because he doesn't particularly care about much else and nor does he see the point in moving houses when his house is perfectly fine. (by the house, I mean the palace). because of this, it may seem as if he's 'loyal' but the truth is, he's just satisfied with his current position. he isn't exactly greedy nor does he wish to covet more than he already has. the master he has currently hasn't crossed his line, which starts and ends with children, so he's fine with him. with people like him, your best hope is just to be their first master, which is exactly the case with the crown prince. - his parents were runaways from new asia, and when they arrived in illea, they were homeless. despite being asian, both him and his twin brother received names befitting of the region they lived in. however, neither of them were actually registered as citizens, and for the longest time, they two had to hide because they technically didn't exist. the only reason this was possible was because their father was a doctor and when their mother was in birth (after they made it to illea), he was the doctor who helped birth them.
- because of his situation, he was perfect for a shadow. shadows must keep their identities secret and they basically need to stay in the shadow. what was better than someone who didn't exist and didn't have a proper identity?
- he and his twin brother were actually taken in as children. arrested with their parents. while their parents served jail time, the children were still young and had committed no crime other than being born. rather than being punished, the two were raised within the palace. carmen were raised to be a shadow, and his brother, because of his sickly nature, instead focused on education and became a reporter for the royal family. carmen were gifted to the crown prince by the king and queen as his shadow when he was fourteen years old, so three years prior. despite being young, he was incredibly skilled and did as he was told and how he was trained.
- he's a few years younger than the crown prince, and while most would show immaturity, the child seems pretty mature for the most part. albeit, lacking some common sense when it comes to certain things people who grew up normally would know.
- he firmly believes that only his master and the owners of the kingdom are permitted to know who he is and what he looks like. of course, his brother doesn't count as they grew up together.
- the child has never had any friends, other than his brother, and therefore never had anything such as romance in his life, nor has he ever had such fantasies.
- while he doesn't get paid very much, he is provided with housing, clothing, and food. what money he does get every month, he saves up in case he might ever need it. it also doesn't help that he doesn't exactly know how to use money. while he may have been trained in the common language, combat, etc, basic education was never a priority for him or his teachers.
- his mother was an assassin in new asia. the mask he wears now was the one she wore when she worked.

personality↛ (view spoiler)[ the male, unlike his brother, is rather cold and calculating. the only thing the two brothers seem to have in common is their morals and that they both don't seem like to speak too much. while the male is cold and calculating, he's actually quite good at socializing. it would be hard to be a reporter if he wasn't. sure, he doesn't like to speak, but that doesn't mean he doesn't. if he was of higher status, he probably would have gone into politics or something instead of being a reporter. he's not exactly the kindest and when he looks at someone, it's almost as if he's judging them; but not in the bad way. trying to find what makes a person tick is just a pass time of his. he doesn't care much for children, but he'd naturally intervene if one was being targetted. then again, he's also likely to give a child a smack to the head if they are a brat. he's quite similar to cal actually. he's just meaner sometimes. - he's working toward being an advisor. he's a bit young now, but he's hoping that when the current crown prince takes the throne, he might have a shot as he would be older. he's pretty smart, smart enough to be one maybe.
- he may seem like a very opinionated person, but he actually bases all his reports on facts. for example, if he were to write something on a rumor, he'd investigate the rumor, mention that it is just a rumor, and then get into what he had found out through digging. he doesn't want to give false reports.
- he doesn't do dance. sure, he can do ballroom dances like the waltz, as he received an education similar to the one of the royal children, but actually dancing kind of just no.
- he's good at piano, as that was part of his secondary education when he was younger, as well as violin. other than that though, he can't really play anything else.
- he likes to relax. if he's not working, you might just find him laying in a patch of grass in the sun.

- he doesn't wear it, in fear of losing it, but he keeps a locket of his parents and brother in his room.
- despite being the uptight person he seems to be, he actually hates formal wear. he can't stand ties, and while he might dress decently for work, his ties always miraculously disappear and the first two or three buttons of his shirt just suddenly won't work.

Anna was born in the wrong place, at the wrong time. A clinic in France in which she was given birth to was, at the time, under the control of slave-traders who would bribe the staff in order to present newborns as deceased. The newborns would then be raised by strict nuns and then, at the age of eight, were sold to wealthy people to serve as slaves, and Anna was destined to do the same. She would always try her best to be the best servant she possibly could, intent on earning her master's trust and possibly some privileges that would help her in making her way out, escaping the cruel reality she was forced to live in. Although everything changed soon enough when her master invited a powerful woman in the house to talk about ‘business’. She brought her own slave along.

They were the same age and while their owners would have serious conversations, the two kids were not allowed to be around or listen in to them. They would use that time to their advantages and play with each other, something both of them had always dreamt of doing but never could. Though the slave boy was an English speaker, the two taught each other the other language in order to communicate. After meeting each other, their dreams of freedom didn’t matter as much. Their friendship continued for a long time and they never seemed to realize how long it had lasted. But they didn’t care. Over the years, their relationship developed into something more, a mutual feeling of tenderness and affection. Though it was not meant to remain that way. When the two were 18 years old, the plans of their rulers had finally been completed and it was finally time for them to be implemented. For that to happen, the woman would have to leave the country as would the slave boy.

Driven by her obsessive love for him, Anna’s initial reaction was to cut the boy’s legs off, only saying; “Now you can’t leave me.” The owners of the two stared in pure terror as the boy bled to near death in front of them. Luckily, he was sent to a hospital in time but, being of no use anymore, was also freed of his duties. However, Anna was not as lucky as him. She was immediately shipped off to be sold. Her new owner doesn’t know why or what she did, and she is somewhat thankful for that. So with the new start she keeps the guilt and pain to herself in hopes of a better life, but she suffers greatly. Now a maid in the castle, Anna tries her best to come off normal, though her tendency to switch between English and French, avoiding questions asked, and stalling by talking about random stuff/rambling shows she has issues. She just does a good job of convincing herself it never actually happened, until she breaks again and repeats the cycle, unable to escape what has now become her reality. (hide spoiler)]
