I dont even know how Portugal managed to qualify to the next round..."
We all know how. Christiano.
They have some brill players, but that dude - love him or loathe him, he is a complete genius footballer.
England are very quietly going about their business. Boring but solid, 7 points without really breaking a sweat. Nice easy game next lol!
If we can get through Germany then we should have a fair crack at at least the semi's given how the draw is looking.
If England get past Germany I'll get a bit more excited. I used to love Euro's and WC's but not so much these days.
I'm also really fed up of this taking a knee nonsense. It made some sense after project restart but should have ended when that season finished. It made people take notice at first but now it's just going through the motions and has lost any impact. I don't like politics in football either.

I'm much like Phil in that I have no real interest in the Premier League, yeah the football can be great but it's too predictable for me. Also I support a Championship club (QPR) and the Championship just doesn't receive the same amount of TV coverage as the Premiershit

YES!! looks incredible. Cinema release? This will be my cinema return if so. Not been since...? Can't remember? The Force Awakens?
Have read Dune multiple times - but can never get on with anything after the first book.
Have the David Lynch film on DVD too. It's hugely flawed but enjoyable, but this just looks beyond imagination.
I look forward to anything Denis Villeneuve does - and with Dune being one of those atmospheric sci-fi stories it's ideal for him. I loved Arrival and Bladerunner 2049. So probably my most anticipated movie too.
Sicario was good too.

It’s in Theaters and also on HBO Max, on October 1st. As a long time Dune fanatic, I’ll for sure be seeing it in theaters, maybe several times on HBO as well before finally getting the Disc version once that’s released.

Including the prequels and sequels, I think there’s more than 22 books in total, and still counting. I have 16 of them, and of those, I’ve finished nearly 11 - having read some of them (including the original) multiple times.
Dune Cast Q&A, with Stephen Colbert.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lvIasUK...

Only thing that disappoints is apparently the film is only the 1st half of the first book, and then the 2nd half of the first book, and the 2nd book, are going to be dealt with by an HBO Max series - which in itself is fine - series can have cinema production values etc - but HBO Max :( :(

Oh really? With the same cast though? I mean the book is huge so it might actually be good they didn't try to cram it all in.

Whatever they’re going to do, HBO is a good choice when you consider Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Chernobyl, etc., etc., etc.. By the way, there’s a GoT prequel series being filmed right now, and should be releasing sometime early next year.

My prediction for the end of the film - Paul taking the water of life.
I'm just hoping that the series comes to Sky Atlantic. Then I'll be a happy boy.

Got to be gutting when something like this happens!
I like Wimbledon. It's the same as with the football and major international tournaments. I don't generally watch tennis, but I do get addicted to Wimbledon!
Euro 2020 is finally getting interesting then.

Current European champions, current World champions, both previous World cup finalists, everyone from the group of death. Not even at the quarter finals yet!
Italy, Belgium & Spain all still extremely dangerous, and nothing can be taken for granted (Iceland) but England must be licking their chops. This is our best chance at a major tournament I can ever remember.

lol, Sorry but that's the funniest thing I've heard since.....well probably the last major tournament.
I agree Phil. Its an amazing chance to make the final and then who knows what can happen.
Ukraine next and then either Denmark or Czech Republic (who we've already beaten).

Not fair. Pundits and fans always say we have a decent chance - on paper - as we always have talent in the squad - but this tournament is extra juicy as far as England are concerned now because of the draw. Ukraine in the quarters and then either Denmark or Czech in the semi's - you couldn't ask for a better draw.
Losing to Germany would have been gutting but acceptable - it's Germany, and even if it's not a great Germany side, it's still Germany. but with that hurdle conquered, anything less than getting to the final would now be a failure. Because of the draw, going out in the round of 16 would have more acceptable than going out in either the quarters or semi's
As said - once in the final - probably Spain/Belgium/Italy (who knows though? Go Switzerland!!) anything can happen, and if we lose then yes - gutting, but again, not a failure as they're top top teams.

Deffo not the case. Semi final in the last WC and at least quarter finals in the following Euros. Best England team/performances for 25/30 years.
Hi all
Im actually enjoying the Euro now.
It feels like the teams who really put the effort can actually win this.
Portugal was nonsense.
The coach thinksCristiano Ronaldo is a god and has to play every single minute, takes all free kicks penalties etc.
Its ridiculous. Bruno Fernandes was reduced to a secundary player so that the spot remained on Cristiano. Its bs and im sick of it.
Cristiano is still a top player and scorer but he´s 36 ffs. He needs to play the last 20 minutes and crush the defenders. Not play 90+ minutes and do nothing.
Our top league scorer Pote didnt even had a single minute in the euro. He´s a great player who doenst think twice before atempting to shoot and scored 23 goals being a midfielder...but no... he didnt deserve a single minute.
Rant over.

My worry now is England thinking about the final too much and underestimating the teams before that. We've got a good record against the none top teams (not counting Iceland).
The performance more than the result against Germany has got my hopes up so would be awful having them dashed by a poor performance against Ukraine, Denmark or Czech Rep and always thinking of what could have been.
As an England and Sheff Wed fan I'm used to crushing disappointment so will get over it. If we lose in the final against a top team, that will be fine and show we're moving in the right direction.

Just a small game against some team who play in blue on Sunday. I'm sure England will do fine :)
Won the semi through an own-goal and a rebounded penalty that probably shouldn't even have been given. I'll take it!!
The last 2/minutes of ET though. that passing to wind-up the game. Brilliant stuff.
I hope the lucky way we won the semi yesterday was an omen for the final. I thought we were the better team last night over the whole 120 minutes but Denmark for a good 45-50 minutes of the 90 mins were the better team. Italy though for me are so far the best team in the tournament and from my experience in these big competions the best team usually does win. I hope not though. They're gonna be very tough to beat but it can be done.
We were fortunate in the semi final but deserved to win anyway so I'll take it.
Hopefully it is an omen. The last time we were in a final we won it too :)

Well. Absolutely gutting to go out on penalties. Italy were the better team overall in the game (and probably the entire competition) but for the sake of winning a penality shoot out - we missed out again. Heroic performance!
Hey guys.
What a bummer last night.
I wanted England to win and for the first 30 minutes it looked like they had the game controled but after that it almost felt like they given up on the game.
In the end i think Italy kinda deserved the win as they put a bit more blood and sweat.
Realyl disapointing nonetheless.

Yeah gutted. Feel sorry for Saka and hope it doesn't adversely affect him.
Lots of positives though. First final in 55 years, beating the Germans on the way and not conceding a goal from open play until the final. We're going in the right direction.

It was really touching to watch it.

I just want to add one thing:
That play where Chiellini grabbed Saka ( think it was him) near the end was disgusting. He should have taken a red card.
I knwo why he did it but it was discusting nonetheless.

My only gripe with how England approached the final was after they conceded the goal. I can understand Gareth wanted to manage the game 1-0 up but ultimately once Italy scored he should have been more positive with the subs and attacking play to try to win the game. Bringing on two-subs 1 minute before a shootout, regardless of whether they practiced it, is a lot to expect for players to come on in that pressure cooker moment and with their first (or near first) touch of the ball to convert a pen. IMO he should have brought them on at the start of extra time and try to win the game with attacking football, and if it went to pens they would have had 30 mins to get used to the pressure cooker atmosphere. Saying that Gareth to that point did get most things right.

yeah i agree.
That´s also why i said it almost felt like England lost interest in the game after the 30 min mark. It was like all that mattered was defending the result which usually never ends well as the other team builds up momentum and confidence.

I don't think he wanted to play Rashford for too long as he was essentially playing as right back for the few mins he did play.
I understand why he brought Rashford and Sancho on for pens but as you say, might have been too much at once. I was annoyed at the stuttering nonsense and just makes the miss ten times worse. Just blast it on target and if the keeper saves then fair enough. Not much point in stuttering so the keeper dives to then miss the target completely or kick the ball to where the keeper went to. Saka's pen was good but was well saved.

Penalties are tough.
Its all about the mental strength.
I used to play football and at times the legs tremble.
I agree with Rob on this. Its better to use players who are already in the game, fully concentrated then players who joined just to take the shot.
It sucks to lose on penalties but i truly think England couldt have done a lot more to win the game.
It lacks a great playmaker in the midfield.

He could have subbed Rashford, Foden/Sancho for Saka (yea sub for sub) and either Kane/Sterling. Up front it just looked very leggy and ineffectual. Anyway it's history now and I think they did a great job - best performance of an England team (players and coaches) in my memory.
I really couldn't see him subbing Kane or Sterling unless they were injured. But you're right, it's history now.
Roll on Qatar.
Roll on Qatar.

Absolute respect to the lads for their efforts. I hope the absolutely disgusting bastards who wrecked central London and posted racist comments get their comeuppance. These fucking trash people can fuck right off.

It seems to be setting up the MCU for its next big bad in addition to introducing the concept of the multiverse. They are in serious danger of over-complicating things. I've been hearing rumours that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are going to be appearing as Spider-man in No Way Home to further push this agenda but I can't say I like it.
Love the characters of Loki and Sylvie.
I'm hoping and have read Maguire and Garfield will only be appearing as cameos in No Way Home.
I agree though, it's in danger of becoming over complicated.

New Spider-man: No Way Home trailer today. Its looking good with its nods to the early Tobey Maguire films and Doctor Strange being in it. I'm not really feeling Shang Chi or The Eternals (MCU fatigue I think) but really looking forward to this next Spider-man film.
