We are always hot in the Sacramento Valley in the summer, but right now it is hotter to the north of us and when does that ever happen. Poor Portland. We should hit 96 today and I've lived here long enough that I can deal with that.
I haven't even thought as far as the 4th, but I am sure we will do some grillin' n chillin'.
Happy to have received my first Social Security check and signing up for it when smooth as silk. I was in high anxiety about it, so I am quite relieved.
Now to get little things accomplished every day and figure how all this retirement stuff works.
Just to update everyone on Roxie, she is doing fine rapidly coming back to her own self. She is gaining weight and muscle tone back. Yesterday she jumped on top of the shower door to see what I was doing in there and watch the water. She keeps hunting for her toys, poor thing, we threw them all away, because we don't want to go through it again.

Nothing planned for the 4th. Like BnB, just chill and grill probably.
The weather here is steaming also, and it's still raining everyday. The sun stayed out until about 1pm today-now the rain and thunder is back...and Miss Lola is back in the bathroom.

I'm nervous about the 4th. We have fire bans in one area of the city, and firework sales are being pulled from the area, and some surrounding (Costco pulled all their fireworks here). I'm hoping those remember last year when our whole state was on fire, and choose not to light fireworks this year. I'll celebrate with BBQ, games, and friends and family.
On the bright side- hubby and I actually had A/C (ductless minisplit, so will act as our heat later on) installed to our new house. Literally a week before the insanity started. Also, my tomatoes and zucchini are LOVING the hot weather. I've had some Roma babies on my plant for a couple weeks now, but I've got TONS now after the long hot weekend.

I know that feeling, well.
The funny thing is our cat, Roxie, hates the heat. She looks forward to going outside, but when it is really hot she turns around and goes right back in. Rosie on the other hand finds a bit of shade and takes a snooze in it.

As for the 4th ... no plans as of right now. And I just realized it is THIS weekend! How did THAT happen??!!! I think we'll just hang around the house, might or might not grill. But I do believe I need to buy a watermelon ....

Last year was a nightmare. Those who seem driven to set off illegal fireworks and rockets in NYC were at it for hours every night for 2 months. Fireworks are banned here completely - always have been - anyone buying them is going out of state or online. PA is closest state selling them - a mere 1.5 hour drive.
It's dry here as well. Minimal snow or rain this winter, very little rain this spring. We did have a week of late afternoon thundestorms - very unusual for NYC.
And yet, there supposedly is no climate change....

That's a lot of news :). I'm glad that your husband is doing great now. Lots of exciting changes, but I am sorry to hear about Dandy's numbers.

But I have been in hotter weather and at least our a/c is drying our house out even if it can't keep it where we have it set, so we're thankful to have it.

Excellent! How fun is that?

How fantastic! I see more such meetings for you in the future.
Robin - have you started making tentative plans to visit NYC? Not advisable in summer.

Robin and I carpooled for part of the way. We were so busy chatting we almost missed our exit!

So glad that Scott's surgery went well and that he is on the road to recovery. LOTS of news from your household! Dandy certainly looks good in the FB pics I've seen recently ... numbers, schnumbers ... I'm betting she continues to surprise you.
I remember when my youngest brother went off to college and I asked my Mom how it felt to "almost" be an empty-nester. She hesitated for a few seconds and then said, "I don't want to offend you, but ....
we're RELIEVED! Raising you all has been exhausting!"

I agree, no plans to come to NYC this summer, maybe fall.

LOL! Yeah, we haven't been hit nearly as bad as you have, but it's not nice here in Calgary, either. Far too hot for my liking. Again, not nearly as bad here, but we hit 36.3 today (all time record high temp here is 36.5 - that's almost 98 F).
I would normally find 26 C too hot (that's almost 79 F), but I am looking forward to that on Saturday (I hope! That's the current forecast, anyway). And maybe some storms (yay rain!) on Friday (though Friday's high is still 31 C).
ETA: Lytton, BC (interior BC) hit 49.6 C today! That is the all time Canadian high temperature (and they've beat that all time high temp the last 3 days in a row). That's 121.28 F!!!

YAY! So much fun!
ETA: Given that I live so far from everyone else, I feel lucky that I've been able to meet a couple of shelfari friends. It was a number of years ago for both.
Candice and I did a cruise together (I've told this story), and that's the first time we met. I also met up with her a few years later when another cruise I was taking left from New Orleans (those who know her might remember she used to live in Louisiana - Lake Charles).
Regina and her husband came to Alberta (main destination was the Rocky Mountains - no surprise) for their 25th wedding anniversary, so we met up for food just before they were flying out of Calgary.

Nothing major going on here. The RV park that we are staying in has a freshwater fishery right next to it and the manager here said that the fishery always sets off fireworks. We're just gonna take our chairs out and watch the fireworks.
Not sure if we'll grill or not. Friday is my boyfriend's birthday and we're going to grill out that day. Steaks and loaded sweet potatoes, yum! I suck with coming up with dinner ideas. LOL!

I'm about an hour outside of Seattle and Seattle had 3 of their highest temperatures ever recorded this past weekend and Mon. Did I mention I don't have AC. Most people here don't. Only 1/3 of the population does. Most restaurants had to close too because they either don't have AC or their AC couldn't keep up.
We were very fortunate that we had a small portable unit that we set up in my office (the only room in my house that has a door) and we slept in there on an inflatable mattress at night. My mom lives next door and she has AC but it just couldn't keep up and got up to 83. But I was able to work down there with the dogs. My house got up to 95 degrees inside at the worst point.
Today we are finally back to normal with a high of 72 and low of 59. And the 2nd AC unit that we ordered that is larger than the one we have, is finally being delivered today. We ordered it before the heat wave was even in the forecast and Fed Ex had been holding it hostage for over a week at a station 47 miles from my house.
Thank goodness for the AC because we are expected some warmer temps again this weekend and next week. It'll also help block out the noise of fireworks. We have an extremely anxious dog that doesn't handle fireworks well and we usually spend the day trying to keep him calm and finding ways to block the noise. Most of the time we do a Marvel movie marathon because of all the noisy action scenes.
I have to go out later in this misery of hazy, hot and humid (Temp currently 94F but feeling like 107F). Ugh. Good news is that I only need to be out for a short time. This continues until end of week when we another break with temps staying in the 70sF during the day. Much more tolerable.
Anyone in the US have plans for the upcoming 4th of July? I'm getting together with my friend Liz for Sunday in the Park with Cocktails. Maybe we'll add a little Scrabble to that outing. Liz's birthday is the 5th so i'm planning a surprise or two.
This hot weather is not helping me with my efforts to get back to a regular going to the office routine. Oh well. I'm taking the week of July 11th off to do the virtual Royal School of Needlework Summer School. My home office will become my needlework studio. Looking forward to that.
