July Monthly Challenge Part 1- Twin Reads Challenge

Hello everyone, for the month of July 2021, we are having several different challenges at the same time.

The original ideas for these were suggested by Niharika when our group hit 700+ members, and we had promised to implement it in July. The credit for the main ideas goes to her, but we mods modified the ideas to make it work effectively, as we are a much larger group than we were then. :) Thank you so much for that, we really appreciate it!

We’d also like to give credit to The Midnight Readers as they were the first ones to start the ‘Twin Reads Challenge’, and the credit to the name also goes to them, though we are making some changes from their original challenge.

The first part to this 3 part challenge, is the twin reads challenge. In this challenge, two people will be paired up together to read books of their choice. To keep it fair, we’ll also be asking you to mention your preferred genres of reading while signing up, so that you can be paired with someone who has similar reading tastes. We will be allotting your team member.

Here are the rules for the challenge-

The team can read a book from the following options.

1. It can be a standalone book of any genre.
2. It can be published between 2010-2020.
3. The pair can decide a particular author to read from.
4. The pair can read a classic.
5. It can be with a black and white cover.

Books that won’t fit these categories won’t be counted. The reason for these rules is to keep the books chosen more precise.

The pairs will be expected to read books from these particular options. You don’t have to fit all of the prompts, just one of them is enough. We recommend reading books from the public domain so they are accessible to everyone.

Point System

Completing each book gets +20 points.

We are including points for the page count-

Books between 100-200 pages will have +10 points
Books between 201-300 pages will have +20 points
Books between 301-400 pages will have +30 points
Books between 401-500 pages will have +40 points
Books between 501-600 pages will have +50 points

And so on. Books below 100 pages will not count.

Which book are you’ll reading? :)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I don’t really have any specific books, but if they’re from my owned to read shelf that would be better, because I can’t access my library and prefer not to use ebooks

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments But if there’s any specific book you want to read that I don’t own I’ll try to find an ebook for it

message 8: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments Okay cool, even I didn't have any specific in mind. We can go through your owned TBR list and shortlist some. :)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments except a good girl's guide to murder, i lent that to my auntie 😂

message 11: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments okay, so I went through your shelf. Out of those I can start The Cruel Prince, The Darkest Minds or A Darker Shade of Magic. What do you think?

message 12: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments All of those fit the "can be published between 2010-2020" prompt

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I think we should go for the Cruel Prince

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I've been wanting to read it for so long, now I can finally get around to it

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments How much do you want to read per day?

message 16: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments okay great, The Cruel Prince it is :D

message 17: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments I see there are 30 chapters, so maybe 6 chapters a day?

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments Okay that’s fine

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I’ll start today then

message 20: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments Great, I'm starting off too :)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I read the first 5 chapters

- I didn’t realise it was sort of set in the modern day, I was thinking it’d be more along the lines of ACOTAR
- Cardan acts just like the youngest sibling
- I love Jude’s character

message 22: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments Ahh okay, I haven't read ACOTAR yet, but yeah didn't know it was set in the modern day, either.

And yess, I love Jude's character too. I've reached about 13 chapters now, the plot felt a bit slow-building in the beginning, but feels promising now

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments Okay I’ll try to reach up to there

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments By the way what time zone are you in? Just tryna figure out the difference

message 25: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments Yep yep take your time!

message 26: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments I'm in the IST time zone, what about you?

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I’m in the BST time zone

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments So you’re about 4 hours ahead of me

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I only got to chapter 10 last night, I was quite tired, but I’ll try to read some more this afternoon

message 30: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments sure, take your time! I'm usually able to squeeze in more reading during weekends.

This book is picking up pace though, I'm finding it hard to keep it down :D

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments It is, I can barely put it down - last night I read till 1

Honestly everything in this book is really unexpected but I’m living for it

message 32: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments Exactly! Some of the things were quite unpredictable. And I like how the character of Jude is changing with the circumstances, sort of hardening and becoming resilient and power-seeking.

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments She’s showing you can be strong AND wear fancy dresses

message 34: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments Hahaha true :D

message 35: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments I completed the book! Could barely put it down, was so curious about the end :P

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments Ooh really!

I just finished chapter 20, sorry I'm a bit slow

(view spoiler)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments You can start the next book, I'll try to catch up

message 38: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments (view spoiler)

message 39: by Arushi (new)

Arushi Saxena (arushisaxena) | 108 comments yeah don't worry, you take your time! It's not like you're slow, I'm just able to cover more grounds during weekends and plus the book kept me guessing till the end.

I'll wait till you finish before starting the next book. I'm curious to know what do you think of the ending :D

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I finished!

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments I loved the ending, it was quite fast

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 593 comments By the way how many pages did your book have? I'm logging the book in the universal log, and that's one of the questions

Mine had 370 pages
