Luis Contreras | 60 comments The Evil Dead is one of my all time favorite movies because of its creative special effects, camera work, and expressive acting. It's the first film directed by Sam Raimi. It follows a group of six college students on vacation in a cabin isolated in the middle of the woods. They find tape recordings and a Necronomicon book. with no way out and an evil force that can posses people and turn them into demons haunting the main characters, they spend the rest of the movie trying to find a way to survive the night.

The Special effects is where this movie really shines as there are countless creatively made effects from makeup to excessive gore animated through stop motion. There are also many great shots and really fluid camera work like the shots of the evil force quickly roaming around the forest. The acting is also very expressive from Bruce Campbells iconic reactions to the way the possessed character's move their bodies. All of this is even more impressive considering how much of a low budget this film had and how creative they needed to be with the resources they had.

I rate this film a 5 star as the special effects are outstanding and the plot perfectly sets up the foundation for a great trilogy.
