Finally, someone with a same opinion !
I..didn’t like the novel ..at least not as much as I expected to, and I was sooo excited. For me, it wasn’t the question of ‘whether it was worth the hype or not ?’, Rather, it is ‘whether it meets my expectations or not ?’
And it doesn’t.
The very first problem I have with it is the relationship development which had a rushed enemies to friends and a kinda cute (but still quick ! ) friends to lovers relationship, which is disappointing because I hoped for a moderate paced enemies to lovers relationship.
I was also hoping for a bit more political drama (not the US election drama), personal identity struggles, relationship problems, obstacles to their romance, self-questioning and stuff like that. And to some extent , it does provide that but unfortunately I felt like the problems either got solved too quickly or had a fairly easy solution.
The novel does have its enjoyable moments and I do believe that the Alex and Henry have good chemistry and scenes together. But I think in the end, Red, white and royal blue was a decent romance that unfortunately weigh more towards a fairytale romance than a complicated Shakespeare-style romance I was hoping for.
I can see why people like it but I obviously don’t think the same.
I’m not gonna give it below 3 stars though because I feel like it was personal disconnection rather than an actual bad novel.
