I also understand your situation with bus trips that are too short for much reading, my current commute matches that scenario so I now listen to podcasts instead of audiobooks. I hope there are benefits to your new home that offset the inconveniences.
Books mentioned in this topic
While Justice Sleeps (other topics)Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto (other topics)
1) The Dancing Murders by James Musgrave(historical mystery) Source: Net Galley Started: 5/31 Finished: 6/19
Why Read: I read the first book in the series. This is the sixth and it sounded interesting. So I downloaded it from Net Galley and began reading it right away.
Comments: Wyatt Earp is accused of murder. His lawyer Clara Shortridge Foltz, who is the protagonist, is arguing self-defense. Foltz is a real historical person like Wyatt Earp. There are a great many characters with unsavory reputations, and four character viewpoint narratives on the events of the plot. The author suggests that readers choose only one of them. Since I was reviewing the book I read them all. So I read the same story line four times and it seemed interminable. I suppose I would have had a better impression if I had chosen only one narrative. I gave it a B- See my complete review at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
2)While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams (thriller) Source: Library Started: 6/14 Finished: 6/22
Why Read: I've been seeing Stacey Abrams a great deal on TV news. I decided to read one of her novels.
Comments: A U.S. Supreme Court justice ends up in a coma. His clerk becomes the justice's legal guardian. The clerk is a very sympathetic character. The plot involves a great many complications. I found one sub-plot not at all credible. So I gave it a B- For my complete review see https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
3)Glitch Feminism by Legacy Russell (politics) 178 pages. Source: Purchased from publisher Started: 6/23 Finished: 6/28
Why Read: The publisher was featuring this book in an e-mail.
Comments: I think that Glitch Feminism is intended for non-binary readers. It seemed to me that Russell felt superior to those who identify with a single gender. I didn't enjoy the book, but this was a perspective that I'd never previously encountered. I gave it a C+. See my complete review at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
June wasn't a good month for reading, and July started off with a bunch of books that I abandoned unfinished. Since I don't credit myself with having read unfinished books, that's essentially a lot of wasted time. I'm hoping that things get a good deal better over the course of July.
