Barbara | 510 comments So even before noon, I got 10 spam phone calls. Problem is, even with blocking programs, most of the time the numbers are spoofs of legitimate and often local phone numbers. So if the spammer has the ability to hijack someone else's phone number - worse, if it's someone you might know or a real business or organization - how can you stop it? Even letting voicemail pick up doesn't stop it.
Today, I got four identical messages from four different numbers all saying it was my "final notice." I'm old enough to remember when "final" mean after the one attempt, you don't bug me anymore.

Yes, the dubious "beauties" of the telecommunications. Almost everything comes with a toll. Should be solvable. We have an amendment to telecommunication law instating liability for spam/unconsented messaging and calls. Most don't do anything about it, some lawyers try to exploit this "opportunity" seeking instances and requiring compensations often bringing it to the other extreme ...
I, personally, still find "legit" tv commercials more annoying..

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8073 comments I bought some new phones that block spam calls. My phone doesn't ring nearly as often.

Barbara | 510 comments I can get a 0% interest rate on my Discover Card. (I don't have one)
Solar panels will cut my energy costs in half. (People still fall for this one?)
"Immediate action" must be taken on this that or the other, or else.
Medicare will pay for my knee brace, back brace and hearing aid. (Not on medicare, knees, back and hearing are fine, thanks for asking.)
My car warranty has expired. (Driving a 15 year old car - it expired more than a decade ago.)

Marie | 643 comments I think the cyber space gremlins infiltrated all of our social media and phone accounts so that they can drive us crazy and spam us to death! :-)

Oh and it seems to be a worldwide problem - I thought that stuff just happened over here in the states.

I can put blocks on my phone for some of it, but the email spam most of the time goes to my spam folder so I don't see a lot of that stuff.

J. Gowin | 7982 comments I remember, back in the mid-nineties, my dorm mates and me had a running contest to see who could keep a phone sales person on the line the longest. We had a few of them on there for over an hour each. My personal best was a guy selling carpet shampooers whom I asked if it can get blood out of shag. He sounded fairly concerned when I inquired wether it could get blood out of the underlayment, but he kept up the spiel.

Lizzie | 2057 comments I am jealous of Philip because he has such a variety.

I had one car warranty call, which was a relief to receive, as for the past 3 months it's been 2 or more calls a day regarding putting solar energy in at my house. This week, I only had 10. Then I looked at the blocked calls and saw I had 12 of those from numbers I had already blocked. Hyatt called me to tell me I get a free room as a result of my recent stay. (I haven't been in a hotel since February.)

My cell phone used to be very few; they were all on my landline, which I have not answered since August 2015. Since the solar people are really annoying, I have been blocking each number after I answer and hang up. Some of those same numbers call every other day.
