Erika | 22 comments So I'm doing a reading challenge where one prompt is to read a book related to a randomly generated word and my word ended up being cathedral.

I'm sure there are tons of books related to this word but I've already read Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie and I'm iffy on The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and I am struggling to find another book to fill the prompt that doesn't feel like a stretch (and I'd actually like to read) so I'd love any suggestions people have.

What I'm looking for
1. Book cover/title/plot must be related to the word cathedral
2. Preferably nothing too long (500 pages or less would be ideal)
3. Nothing so obscure that it would be difficult/expensive to get
4. Fiction. I know I could probably find a non-fiction book about cathedrals easily but I don't want to tbh
5. Any age range above picture books is fine
6. Any genre is fine but I'm leaning towards fantasy/sci-fi or mystery/horror

Thank you so much for reading this and for any suggestions people might have!

A Private Cathedral is adult fiction with scifi/mythology/mystery thrown in

Those are popular enough to get at the library.

Would Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code count?

Some of the covers have those sort of arches that you see in Cathedrals (like Canterbury)

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 540 comments The Spire, by William Golding? - "Dean Jocelin has a vision that God has chosen him to erect a great spire on his cathedral. The masons anxiously advise against it, and things have happened around the cathedral which it is better not to question men too closely about. But, without foundations, the spire rises octagon upon octagon, pinnacle by pinnacle, until the stone pillars shriek and the ground beneath it swims. Its shadow falls darkly on the world below, and most darkly on the Dean himself. "

Several by Elizabeth Goudge, most obviously any from The Cathedral Trilogy: The City of Bells + Towers In the Mist + The Dean's Watch. The books are independent from one another they are just linked by each being set in a cathedral city.

Or, of course, any from Susan Howatch's Starbridge sequence, starting with Glittering Images.

Cathedral is a thriller.

Murder in the Cathedral is short.

Cathedral: The Story of Its Construction is a great picture book.

Murder at the National Cathedral is a mystery. It's a series but you don't have to read them in order.

The Cathedral is a classic.
