Luis Contreras | 60 comments The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is a 1966 Spaghetti western directed by Sergio Leone and stars Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach. It's the third movie in the dollars trilogy with a Fistful of Dollars and for a Few Dollars More. The film takes place during the American Civil War as Angel eyes (Lee Van Cleef) is a mercenary contracted to kill a man that goes by Bill Carson and take the gold he stole from the confederacy. Tuco (Eli Wallach) and Blondie (Clint Eastwood) are a duo of bandits that routinely fake to claim Tuco's bounty before escaping with the money. Blondie gets tired of Tuco's complaining with the routine and abandones him in a desert. Tuco survives and gets revenge on Blondie by making him walk across the desert until he dies of dehydration. Tuco finds the a destroyed stagecoach with Bill Carson inside dying willing to tell where he hid his stolen gold. He told Blondie where the gold is so Tuco is forced to keep him alive starting a race between tuco, Blondie and Angel Eyes to find the hidden gold first.

This is my favorite movie of all time and is often regarded by others as the greatest western of all time next to the searchers. The visuals are amazing and perfectly express Leone's vision of a selfish and dirty American West. The characters despite being dubbed the good the bad and the ugly are still not as pure as their titles as the good has the most kills with the bad having the least amount o f kills. The title also works behind the philosophy of the Spaghetti Western as the Ugly is the connection that makes the Good and the Bad almost alike. The Soundtrack is amazing as Ennio Morricone creates one of the most beautiful soundtracks of all time.

I rate this movie a 5 stars because its my favorite movie of all time with how it takes the ideas of the violent Spaghetti western genre and pushes them to another level.
