Lilisa | 575 comments I read Silent Winds, Dry Seas - I enjoyed it - nicely done Vinod Busjeet! The book is set mostly in Mauritius and a bit in the U.S. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Tasha I'm reading The New Home which seems to have pretty good reviews on NG. The writing is not all that great, imo, but I think the thriller part might be pretty good. Still very early in, about 20%.

I've just started Under the Whispering Door Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune . I love the look of Klune's covers and his writing style has a smooth feel to it that makes the story go by quickly.

I'm only at 10%, but right away there is an initial A Christmas Carol vibe to it. I'm curious to see where Kline takes the story and what his interpretation of the afterlife will be.

message 54: by Tasha (new)

Tasha His covers are fantastic, they are what completely draw me to these books. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying it so far.

Lilisa | 575 comments I started Cloud Cuckoo Land. It’ll be interesting to see how I like it. I requested it because one of the locations it’s set in is Constantinople.

I’m one of those who didn’t care for All the Light We Cannot See at all, but very much enjoyed a couple of his nonfiction Four Seasons in Rome: On Twins, Insomnia, and the Biggest Funeral in the History of the World and his short stories The Shell Collector.

Thanks for the reminder Elyse! I’m at the 44% mark and I’m not wowed at all. I trotted over and checked out the discussion thread. I chuckled at your *shrug* comment. I’m wondering where the book is going…don’t think I’m having much luck with any of Doerr’s hyped books.

Tasha I'm still working on The New Home by Chris Merritt which at first I was a little unsure of, I didn't like the writing all that much, but the thriller part of the story has me very interested.

Glad it has you interested, Tasha. Hope the writing is growing on you.

I'm still reading Under the Whispering Door Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune , which I'm loving. I think I'm enjoying it even more than his last book. That might just be because I knew what to expect from his writing style this time, but I find the concept really interesting too.

I'm also starting The Santa Suit The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews for our buddy read. I've only finished chapter one, but I think this is going to be just the sort of book I need right now.

I finished Under the Whispering Door Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune . I thought it was a really great story.

my Under the Whispering Door review

I'm very slowly working my way through The Santa Suit. It's initially good, but I just haven't had much reading time recently.

message 61: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I finished The New Home last week and ended up enjoying it, despite the rocky start over the writing. I ended up giving it 4.5 stars for the thrill aspect.

Tasha At the moment, I don't have anything due for NG until early Oct when I'll be reading The Book of Magic. I only have 5 books on my NG shelf right so a little quiet there for the moment.

I did the audio on the first in the series Kristie. I can’t recall why - it may have been a YLTO challenge or I was in audiobook drought. Glad you liked - I did too. It was a fun listen and Tara was so woof!

Nice review, Liz. It's always disappointing when a book has so much potential, but falls short.

I'm finally about to start These Silent Woods These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant . I'm excited for it, but a bit nervous too because friends have claimed it broke their hearts and gutted them. I guess I should have some tissues available for this one just in case.
