Really enjoyed Dreams Lie Beneath, Murder Book was okay.

Tasha Just thought you guys might be interested in knowing that I started Nine Elms, book one of that NG book you guys read, Darkness Falls. Very early in but so far so good. :)

message 105: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I just want to add that I'm just in ch 5 and wow, it's already a nail biter! lol

I hope you love it, Tasha! I thought it was really good. I ended up putting Darkness Falls aside for a bit, but hope to get back to it soon.

I'm reading Gilded Gilded by Marissa Meyer by Marissa Meyer now. It published a few days ago. It was a late add and I had a slow start with it. I'm moving through it more quickly and enjoying it now.

Kevin | 47 comments I have just finished 12 Hours to Say I Love You by Olivia Poulet which I really enjoyed. It was the first wish I had been granted on Netgalley.

Not sure what to read next, I want to read We Are the Brennans by Tracey Lange however I have others on my shelf which publish sooner than this one so I really should read some of them first....whether I do or not is another matter

message 109: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 575 comments I’m reading The Island of Missing Trees - I’m really liking it. How often do you read a book with a Fig Tree literally being one of the characters? Learning about trees too.

message 110: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 47 comments I really enjoyed 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World so will be interested to hear your final rating/review

I got approved for that one as well and will be reading it later this month. I'm glad to hear you are liking it!

Kevin - I say go for We Are the Brennans if that's what you're in the mood for. You're a fast reader, so it probably won't make you miss any pub dates. Unless something publishes very, very soon.

Lilisa - That sounds interesting, definitely different. I've never read anything with a fig tree as a character before.

Lilisa | 575 comments Kevin - edited to I (!) will have to check out 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World. I’ve read three of Elif Shafak’s books and enjoyed The Architect's Apprentice the best. Tasha - great you got it too! Hope you like it when you get to it. Kristie - yes, I’m really liking Fig Tree (yeah, I’m using fig tree as a proper name :-)) - she’s telling part of the story and has thoughts and feelings. I won’t say more or else will spoil it for others, just that I like how she’s a huge part of the book.

Tasha Great, sounds like her backlist is something to look into as well. I'll let you know what I think once I get to it.

Nice review, Lilisa. Always disappointing when a story is good, but the writing is not.

Thanks Kristie. Yes, I didn’t enjoy the way it was written. Hopefully others will like it more than I did.

message 133: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That one sounds good from your review, Lilisa. I'll keep it on my radar.

Kevin | 47 comments Just been approved for the new Linwood Barclay novel, Take Your Breath Away

message 135: by Kristie (new)

I almost requested that one, Kevin, but I seem to be falling behind on my reads and need to do some catching up before requesting anything else. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

message 136: by Tasha (new)

Tasha lol, just chop away at it bit by bit. It's SO easy to get overwhelmed with all the tempting books on NG!

I'm finally taking a little reading time today. I just finished Wish You Were Here. It was really good, but took a turn that I wasn't expecting and I still don't know exactly how I feel about it. 3.5★ rounded up.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I'm now trying to finish both The Maid and Darkness Falls before starting our buddy read of Reckless Girls. I hate when I fall behind, but I think I was in a bit of a slump. Hopefully, that is past now.

message 138: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Kristie, I'm really curious what that turn was in Wish You Were Here. I have no plans on reading it so would you mind putting what happened in spoilers for me? Or you can PM me.

message 139: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
Sure, Tasha. Just sent you a very spoilery pm.

I just finished The Maid. It was an interesting story about a maid who struggles with social cues and gets caught up in a murder at the hotel she works at. It was another 3.5★ read for me rounded up.

I am reading and hoping to finish The Thursday Murder Club today. It is not through NetGalley, but the publisher sent me a physical copy along with The Man Who Died Twice for review. I'm finding it pretty entertaining so far and I'm about 65% through.

I am also reading Darkness Falls and hoping to finish soon (maybe tomorrow?), as I'm starting a buddy read of Reckless Girls tomorrow and don't want too much overlap of the two.

message 143: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 47 comments I have read both Richard Osman novels and loved them both so much. Will be interested to see what you think of them. I don't know how well known he is over in America but in the UK he is the darling of the nation and much loved TV presenter/producer who has now turned his hand to writing.

message 144: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
Yes, I heard that he was a TV person and had to look him up. I hadn't heard of him before.

I just finished Darkness Falls Darkness Falls (Kate Marshall, #3) by Robert Bryndza . I thought it was a great addition to the series. 4★ Darkness Falls review

I also finished The Thursday Murder Club and gave it 3.5 stars rounded up. Thursday Murder Club review

I plan to get back to Reckless Girls tomorrow and not an ARC, but I'm doing a quick re-read of A Christmas Carol.

message 146: by Tasha (last edited Dec 11, 2021 04:34AM) (new)

Tasha I'm not reading any NG at the moment, reading The Janus Stone and The Rise of Light.

I plan on getting to at least one NG book this month and it's probably going to be Violeta as it's to be published next month.

Tasha wrote: " The Rise of Light. ..."

What do you think about this one?

message 148: by Tasha (last edited Dec 11, 2021 08:17AM) (new)

Tasha Very slow and the writing seems a bit choppy to me, at least from what I was expecting going in. I feel like the characters aren't as fleshed out as I would like either. I loved Tidewater: A Novel of Pocahontas and the Jamestown Colony and was expecting to love this one but I'm not. There is still something about it though that is keeping me going (aside from the fact that I bought the book, lol) but it's not wowing me at all. I'm looking at 3 stars at the moment, at about 75% thru. I think I saw that you gave it 3 stars.

message 149: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, barely. 2,75☆

message 150: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I can see that.
