Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1528 comments I listened to What the Cat Dragged In (Whitman Street Cat Cafe #2) by Kate McMurray (3 stars), Love in the Library by Maggie Tokuda-Hall (3 stars), and Out of a Jar by Deborah Marcero (4 stars) this week. The latter two were audiobooks of picture books so that was a little weird. Now I'm listening to Shattered Midnight (The Mirror, #2) by Dhonielle Clayton . It's the second book in a series but it's a companion novel series spanning different timeframes so I took the risk of reading it before book 1.

Tasha It definitely sounds interesting, and scary!

Yes, I fear that HK will be subsumed, but why am I not surprised. I never did think - and so did many HKers - that HK would be allowed to live with the two-system approach for long…

message 206: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That sounds really good, Karen. I'm going to see if it's still up on NG.

message 207: by Tasha (new)

Tasha It's a Read Now on NG.

I'm finally getting to The Last House on the Street The Last House on the Street by Diane Chamberlain now.

I have big plans to get through a bunch of reviews before the end of the month. Can't wait to see how this goes. lol

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1528 comments I'm halfway through listening to Up to No Gouda (Grilled Cheese Mysteries, #1) by Linda Reilly . It's good so far!

Tasha Good luck, Kristie!!

Thanks, Tasha & Vicki! :)

I almost requested that one because of the title, Elyse. I love that. lol I skipped it because cozies tend to be hit or miss for me. I recently saw someone else had read it and loved it though.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1528 comments I started listening to A Letter to Three Witches by Elizabeth Bass this morning. I've had the e-book for awhile but just got approved for the audio. I much prefer listening to these kinds of novels (romance) than reading. It's good so far.

message 220: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm glad it's good so far. I haven't had an audio yet from NG. I've only requested a couple of times though. One of these days I'll give it another try.

I love the audios. I'm listening to The Christie Affair right now. Hubby and I are working about 2½ hours from our house this weekend and next, so we will listen to have this weekend and half next weekend.

I just love the cover of this book: The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont

message 222: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I like it too. I just entered GRs giveaway for this one. Let me know how it goes, it sounds good.

message 223: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
I will. So far, it is good. It is told from the POV of the mistress, which I wasn't expecting. So, I'm not fond of our MC or Agatha's husband. I'm very curious to see where it goes.

message 224: by Tasha (new)

Tasha good, hope it stays good!

Tasha - I finished The Christie Affair The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont while driving home yesterday. I thought it was good and I was really torn between 3 and 4 stars. My husband loved it and is giving it 5 stars.

I am also halfway through the audio of Josh and Gemma Make a Baby Josh and Gemma Make a Baby by Sarah Ready .

I wonder if I'll be able to finish both before the end of the month? That would be a record month for me.

message 230: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1528 comments I just finished listening to The Woman Next Door by Natasha Boydell and will start listening to Ophelia After All by Racquel Marie tomorrow. I also read How To Live Icelandic by Nína Björk Jónsdóttir on Friday.

Tasha Kristie wrote: "Back to Sundial Sundial by Catriona Ward today! :)"

I was away for the weekend and had very little time to read so did not get to this one either. I did get some reading done last night but I'm hoping to get through a majority of this one today and tonight. I think at the moment I'm about 48% thru.

message 232: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Elyse, I'm still working on that Icelandic book. It's hard for me to get to it bc I can only read it on my phone and it's annoying having to enlarge and move through the book with all the pictures and stuff. I't a gorgeous book, I just wish I could read it more easily.

message 233: by Lilisa (last edited Jan 31, 2022 05:17AM) (new)

Lilisa | 575 comments What did you think of How To Live Icelandic, Elyse? And Tasha - what are your thoughts? I liked it and learned a lot - it was a quick read. Yes, it was challenging to read it in that format - I had to perform a few acrobatics on my iPad.🤣 On your phone would be super irritating, Tasha!

message 234: by Tasha (last edited Jan 31, 2022 05:13AM) (new)

Tasha I have enjoyed it so far. I read about the landscape and then I coincidentally read a thriller set in Iceland so it gave me more of an experience reading the book than I would have without having even read just that little bit. I'm finding it interesting for sure!

message 235: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 575 comments Great - the book does give you a great sense of place and people - I can visualize the the setting for the thrillers! Ack, I just saw my comment above - need to fix the acrobat reference!🤪

Oh I have a laptop and a desktop so I downloaded Abode Digital Editions and read it on that. It's where I read all of the non-Kindle NG books. Their app sucks for reading. lol

I really enjoyed it! The photos were breathtaking!! I've only been to the airport for a layover. It's definitely a beautifully stark country.

message 238: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 575 comments Great that you enjoyed it, Elyse - yes, the photos are lovely and probably looked a whole lot better on a larger screen. I can imagine photos gracing a wall!

Excellent. I have a get together in a few minutes, but plan to dig in a lot more after dinner.

Tasha I'm currently reading The Summer We Buried by Jody Gehrman for NG, publishing early this month. Although I am confused bc I've seen it published already? Anyway, not bad and I'm interested in seeing how it all plays out. I'm almost halfway through.

ETA: In looking through all the editions, I think there is a misprint as all but one edition is publishing March 8.

message 241: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
I think publishing dates change sometimes and Goodreads doesn't make the corrections. Also, NetGalley will sometimes post a new edition pub date as well. So, the dates don't always align. I always go with the NG pub date for my reading plans.

I currently have a book that GR says publishes on April 26th, but NetGalley says July 6th. I always assume that they want the reviews closer to the date they list for whatever reason.

I finished The Golden Couple The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and thought it was excellent.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 244: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 575 comments I finished One Last Chance. This is a mystery/thriller series with cop Andreas Kaldis as the MC set in Greece. This is the 12th book but can be read as a standalone. I’ve read eight of them and this is my ninth - I enjoyed it. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 245: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Sounds like a great setting! I will add the first in the series to my tbr.

I'm finishing Wingwalkers/Taylor Brown.

I've like other books of his but this one is kinda meh.

message 247: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
That's disappointing, Karen. I had some interest in that one, but was on the fence. I've seen very varied reviews for it. I'll probably give it a pass.

message 248: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That is disappointing. I have it and plan on reading it closer to pub date. I've enjoyed his other books too.

message 249: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I started Blackout by Simon Scarrow today, it's publishing at the end of the month. I'm excited to read this author, he's been on my radar for years.

message 250: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I've also decided to listen to an old NG book on my shelf: The Real Valkyrie The Hidden History of Viking Warrior Women by Nancy Marie Brown . I may end up reading some of it as well but I think this will work well on audio. I will finally be able to get it moved off and read, pub date was 8/2021!
