I just listening to Make a Wish. It has already archived, but didn't disappear from my shelf yet. I'm hoping I can get through it quickly.

I am also hoping to finish Townshipped and The Last Orphan before they archive on the 14th.

One of the books that disappeared on me was Battleshipped, which is the 2nd book in the Shipped series. It should be read before Townshipped, but I don't want to end up losing them both. So, I will listen to the one I have first, then figure out what to do about other one.

Vicki Willis | 871 comments You should really leave a comment on NG about all this. It causes a big mess. If it was an update, I would think they would want to know. If enough people are having trouble it might make a difference.

message 355: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
I may do that. I thought they were supposed to disappear 30 days after archive or something like that. Mine never did, so I was surprised when they disappeared at all, but the couple that disappeared on the archive day were the real shockers.

Ashley Gadue (ashleygadue87) | 2 comments I'm about 3/4 through absolute fear by Lisa Jackson.

That sounds good!

Lilisa | 575 comments I just finished A Stone is Most Precious Where it Belongs by Gulchehra Hoja. It was a great memoir about the Uyghurs and their ongoing struggles. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I read A Spell of Good Things by Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ a couple of days ago. I enjoyed her first book a lot better than this one. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 359: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Lilisa, I enjoyed your review of A Stone is Most Precious Where it Belongs by Gulchehra Hoja and it's such a pretty cover. I addedto my tbr. It seems to be getting high ratings from many others as well!

message 360: by Tasha (new)

Tasha My library actually has it now so I put a hold on it. I'll let you know what I think if I get the chance to read it.

Tasha I'm going start The Exhibitionist by Charlotte Mendelson tonight. It has low ratings but I'm hoping to enjoy it more. It was longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction in 2022 so I'm hoping I'm one of those that likes it. lol

message 365: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm currently in the book I mentioned above, The Exhibitionist by Charlotte Mendelson , and it's surprising me. I am enjoying it! After a bit of a bumpy start and an almost DNF, I am so interested in this dysfunctional family. Mostly unlikeable characters but that's what's making this thing interesting. I'm glad I requested it now, lol.

I'm expecting to have a good month. I just finished The Connellys of County Down. I am almost (90%) done Dark Corners and am half way through The Wishing Game. I am also starting Gone Tonight and The Space Between this week. Fingers crossed I can finish them all.

Tasha I started The Many Lives of Mama Love A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing by Lara Love Hardin . If you like Orange is the New Black, I think this has a similar feel. It moves along quickly. This one publishes early August.

That's good to hear, Tasha! I received a physical ARC and a NG ARC of it.

oooh, I was on the fence about getting that one but I think I just might grab it!! Thx for the heads up!

message 375: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm enjoying it as it's always interesting to read about other's lives but it's not riveting, which it totally fine. I think it will come in at 3.5/4 stars.

message 376: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 871 comments I am having such an amazing August! It is funny how a few good books can snowball. Just like how a few duds can put the brakes on the reading momentum.

So far this month I have finished:
None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell None of This Is True 5 stars
The Coworker by Freida McFadden The Coworker 4 stars
Hello Stranger by Katherine Center Hello Stranger 4 stars

I just finished The Space Between which published a couple weeks ago. I still need to write my review.

I'm now going back to finish up a couple of older reads because I don't have anything that publishes before October. So, I have finally returned to The Prisoner! I made it to 19% today. After that, I will only have two more book past publication on my shelf. I hope to be all caught up in September.

message 378: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I have so few books from NG at the moment. I'm trying to read more from my home shelves. I'm glad you guys have had some good reads this month!

I need to read Lost Believers by Irina Zhorov this month for NG so hopefully I will get to it. I think it published early this month.

I'm currently reading The Predictable Heartbreaks of Imogen Finch and also None of This Is True. I did not get None of This Is True from NetGalley, but I enjoy Lisa Jewell and you guys all made it sound so good that I had to read it right away.

message 380: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I can't wait to read None of this is True but I'm waiting as another group I'm in is reading it before the end of the year. I'll come back to check out the discussion here once I get reading.

message 381: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 871 comments I am reading The Trade Off by Sandie Jones The Trade Off and I don't like it at all!
I have read about 4 by this author and they are usually a solid 4 stars. This one is just so bad. I HATE the characters. Like can't stand them.
I am at 40% and I wish I was done. I am leaning towards 2 stars bad!

Oh, that's so disappointing, Vicki. Fortunately, it's at least a short one. Although, I recall having to DNF a book that was 288 pages because I just couldn't do it at the time. I really hope it gets better for you. Sometimes the second half improves.

message 383: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 1528 comments Oh wow that stinks! I've definitely enjoyed most of her other books. I was disappointed to not get an ARC of it.

I forgot all about this thread. :) I'm currently reading The Marigold Cottages Murder Collective and Rules for Ruin.

I just finished Forget Me Not. Has anyone else read it? I have a question about the story. If you haven't read it, don't read my spoiler. It gives away the ending. (view spoiler)

Jessie (Saffity) (saffity) | 62 comments I'm finishing a non-netgalley book, then I'm going to be reading Love and Lattes at Pumpkin Hollow which I'm hoping will be a nice cozy autumn romance.

I've made a goal to get all of my backlog done by the end of the year, and keep on top of my books, which means I'm on a request ban atm.

I have some REALLY good books in my list right now though, so it shouldn't be too hard.

message 386: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2899 comments Mod
I had to do that before too, Jessie. I'm doing well right now limiting my requests and only have one book on my backlog and it's from 3 years ago. I plan to finally read it this year though. I'm tired of having it sitting there and keeping me from being current.

Shruti morethanmylupus (morethanmylupus) | 1111 comments Forget Me Not is next on my audiobooks list so give me a few days and I’ll be happy to chat about it, Kristie!

so, spoilers for Forget Me Not

I thought (view spoiler)

I also finished it over a month ago so I'm racking my brain to remember as best I can 🤣😂

I am pretty sure I know what your backlog book is (The Ferryman ??) and the funny thing is I was so hesitant to read it because of the length.
I really liked it and I was surprised it wasn't good for you.
I am curious to see what happens when you try to read it now.

message 394: by Trisha (new)

Yes, I struggled with getting started, then kept putting it off for other reads because it's on the long side. Somehow I thought you guys didn't love that one. I thought you found it slow.

Edit - I just checked out the book page and Elyse rated it lower than you did. Seems the first half is a bit slow, but then it picks up. I just need to stick with it.

jordan | 1 comments About thirty-something percent into While the Dark Remains, I will say, it isn't my type of book, but it's not inherently bad either.
