Luis Contreras | 60 comments Singing in the Rain is a 1952 musical directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen. It stars Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor. It is a often regarded as the greatest musical of all time. The movie follows the end of the silent era of Hollywood as the Jazz singer has just been released as the first sound movie making every studio racing to make their own sound film. Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) was a silent star that made his way to the top and stars in a new sound film. Sound engineers soon ruin the movie and it's up to Don, his friend Cosmo (Donald O'Connor) and a aspiring actress (Debbie Reynolds) to refilm and save the movie in time.

This movie is extremely energetic. Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor both have an unbelievable amount of energy and talent that when combined they create something that can't be even done by anybody else. The songs and dance sequences are extremely ambitious and impressive seeing how the three main stars can not only keep up with each other's energy but also bring more out of it. The set design is great as it greatly shows the average sets of the golden age of Hollywood. The plot does not put itself down as it's really upbeat and fast showing the exciting side of filmmaking.

I rate this movie a 5 stars as it's possibly the greatest musical of all time because of how unbelievable the main cast's performances are and the fast paced energy that doesn't stop throughout the movie.
