Hi everyone!
I was wondering if we should start up the boards in google docs to keep track of which letters are claimed? I believe that's how I did the challenge last year, so I was wondering what you all think of doing that?

Checking in. Happy to go along with what the rest of the team prefer in terms of tracking. Are people okay with us claiming letters as we read to keep the boards moving?

Hi Karen! Yeah, although it might be good to claim letters only after we've finished reading a book, so people don't 'hold' letters if you get what I mean? I don't really mind either way though, so let's see what the rest wants and I'll be fine with that :)

That was what I was trying to say (holiday brain!). There will be some letters we might have to be more strategic about and hold a book for, but claiming once a book is read makes sense to me.

Hey y'all totally agree about claiming letters once you've read/reviewed and are posting it. That definitely worked last year!

Just to give a heads up. I'm camping 1-4th August, so will not be likely to post reviews until I return.

sheet is all set with formulas so all you'll need to do is add in page number and answer whether it's a BR for the points columns to fill!

I will not be reading a huge amount of books because I'm handing in my Master's thesis soon, but I still wanted to participate because I love this challenge so much and didn't want to miss out this year!

What do you guys think about adding in a "Currently reading" section in the spreadsheet, so we have an overview what books might be finished soon? No banking of letters, just to make organizing for the end of a board easier.

You can put books in the spreadsheet and mark that you've started them that way we know what's being currently read. Honestly I doubt we'll use the banked tab.

It's already in the spreadsheet. There's a column for every book that says Started and that's basically the same thing as the currently reading idea here. Keeping everything on one tab is the easiest and we'll keep things simplified.

Yeah I get that, but I always like to have a little section where I can keep track of the books I plan to read in one table. I can just add it to the tabs if that's okay, and people can use it if they like & it's no problem if they don't!

Just looking at the messages/planning, is there a way of merging these ideas? For example, removing columns J and K on the team boards - as I thought we were only planning to take a space on the board once the book was done - and putting these columns on the banked books tab. I am only a basic spreadsheet user, so sorry if this makes it complicated.

Yeah that's a good idea too!

I don't really want to change anything in the spreadsheet since it's Andy's, but I'll add a tab for a sec so you can see what I was thinking :)

Okay so I added the general idea to the currently reading tab, let me know what you guys think - I don't mind deleting it, then I'll just make a different spreadsheet where I can keep track myself! I really don't mind, so let me know :)

Ah, sorry for the confusion. I assumed that "not claiming letters" also means not to put in your current read in the spreadsheet and only doing it when you're done with reading it. But I assume I can write in a book when I started it, but someone else is welcome to take the spot, if they are done earlier?

yeah that's the basic idea. Plus if you are taking a spot move that book to another letter or the next board so it doesn't disappear completely.
