When You’re Not Reading a Cozy
Listening to The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. Some issues with the audio version I found, but otherwise enjoying it.

Finished listening to this one and enjoyed it, despite narrator foibles. A fun Hallmark-esque rom-com set in the world of STEM academia. Would definitely snap up the print version if I came across it in a local LFL or used book store.
Another book towards the PopSugar Challenge, now 47/50 — only three to go. If I get to one a month Oct-Dec as planned I will actually finish! 😄

Good luck Heather! I'm sure you'll do it :)
Thanks, Brenda. I’m a little worried with two books being almost 600 pages each, but hoping once I get into them they’re fast reads as was the first book in the series. It should help that my November and December TBR lists are shorter than lists from recent months. Especially with the holidays coming up.

My Review
This is the sixth book in the Detective Amanda Steele police procedural series. The prologue and first chapter are dramatic and immediately pulled me into the story.
Spent the day reading Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay, which I enjoyed. The rock formation in question cast an eerie pall over the inhabitants of the school in the novel, and there were many unanswered questions that leave you wondering.

My Review
I’ve seen this book classified as historical fantasy and gothic horror. Both are fitting for this tale of wickedness, deceit, lies, and passion. The premise is great, and while there was a sense of potential danger, it didn’t quite create the suspense and sense of urgency that I expected during most of the book.

My Review
This is the third book in the Red Wolf paranormal romance series. It's set near Portland, Oregon at Christmas time. It's enjoyable, easy to read, has a quick pace and lots of steam, but it lacks the suspense that some of her other series have.

My Full Review
Overall, this is well-written and entertaining with a solid mystery and complex characters set in an off-the-grid sanctuary town that is under construction. An intriguing start quickly accelerates as the plot develops and Casey’s investigation takes off.

Did you see the movie?

Finished listening to The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. Thoroughly enjoyed this, and the narrator was excellent. Now I’m interested in seeing the movie.

I hope you like it! There have been mixed reviews in the classic group discussion, but it’s been my observation that most of the people who disliked it don’t usually read books from the mystery/thriller genre. It’s definitely not cozy, but the writing was good and kept me wondering what the main character was going to do next.

Started Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness, book two in the All-Souls series. The annoying thing about the ereader box set is that the table of contents only lists each book, chapter links are then imbedded at that section only—which makes it difficult to toggle back and forth. Before I started reading I noted down the name and start page for each of the six sections, mostly for figuring out how long each section was. Finished Book I (first seven chapters), hoping to get through Book II this afternoon (next seven chapters). That would be more than 200 pages of 580 and good progress for one day.

Did you find the movie anywhere? It is hauntingly beautiful, visually and with exceptional music.
Joanna — It looks like it’s available to watch for free on YouTube, so I might watch it one of these days. A lot of people in the classic group discussion seemed to love the movie.

Yes I saw that many years ago when it first came out Joanna. I can still remember parts of it :)

Ended up finishing today! 4-star read for me!
