Walid | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am having a really hard time finding clean books. I am mainly looking for mystery books, but adventure or any fiction genre that is hard to put down is fine as well, as long as it’s not romance or religious.

By “clean” I mean the following:

- No religious exclamations such as “Jesus”, “Christ”, etc
- No sexual content, zero
- Zero profanity but I can allow max two instances because a totally profanity free book is difficult to find
- I am ok with violence in books just not too explicit
- Some mention of drugs or alcohol I can handle but I quickly get annoyed when the book become loaded with it

Another requirement: I prefer the main character to be male, I see a lot of new mystery books having female leads and while that is not a problem I would prefer male character.

The author is should be a contemporary one. That means no agatha christie. And please no recommendations of Penny Louise, it does not meet my criteria due to religious exclamations.

And it definitely is a big plus if the book is available on audible. I know there were many requirements here but appreciate the help I can get :)

Terri (terricb) | 40 comments Wow - this is a long list of requirements and I kind of feel like anything I suggest will somehow be unacceptable, or at the very least, something you have already read. But, here goes.

How do you feel about fantasy novels? There are quite a few clean fantasy novels with male leads. They often have adventure and mystery. Here are a few:

Fireblood by Jeff Wheeler and all the books in this series

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson and all the books in this series

Going Postal by Terry Pratchett and nearly anything Terry Pratchett has written

The other type of book I'm thinking you may like is YA fiction for boys. These books are generally clean and have lots of adventure with male leads. Here are a few I would suggest:

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

Nation by Terry Pratchett

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

Proprietary by Larry L. Howell

I'll post some more later after you react to these.

Florence Witt (florence-w) | 38 comments Squeaky clean mysteries would meet all your criteria but one ...it's a female protagonist.

I will also put the link to my lists....they are clean.

June Tistskovich | 19 comments Hi! I feel the same way so I would recommend the Mrs. Polifax series, The Hannah Swenson Series (Joanne Fluke) and anything by Hope Callahan.
Hope this helps.

Leah Brewer | 1 comments I am working on book 2 in my series. The first one is on KU. A Moon Lake Chronicles Mystery: The Evil Within

It has 0 curse words
It has some romance
It is a clean, supernatural read.

I understand it that's not your cup of tea :)

Madison McAuley | 67 comments Try Remember, Remember by Charles Velay and Anna Elliot. Bonus, it’s free on KU if you have that. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

It’s a mystery but does have a light romantic subplot (second place to the mystery and very light and clean, not even a kiss)

It has a female lead but some good male side characters that play a role in solving the mystery. It’s a spin-off of Sherlock Holmes.

It’s been a few months since I’ve read it but I don’t remember any profanity.

It was recommended on the library of clean reads website, so you can pull up that review if you want more info.

It’s so hard to find clean books nowadays so I’m looking forward to seeing the other recommendations.

Ken | 59 comments I am not positive my criteria will be as stringent as yours (I may not have noted all religious exclamations), but I listen to a lot of audiobooks and keep a log, and I rated the following as zero profanity, zero sex, and little or no violence. I skipped several excellent titles that weren't contemporary, and not surprisingly, quite a few of the ones that made the cut are for kids: The Domino Effect by Davis Bunn (financial thriller), Beaches, Bungalows & Burglaries by Tonya Kappes, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park (children's), Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk, The Bridge Home by Padma Venkatraman, Masters of Disaster by Gary Paulsen (very silly), Theodore Boone series by John Grisham (juvenile readers), Come on Seabiscuit! by Ralph Moody, Rascal by Sterling North, Heart of a Samurai by Margi Preus,
