On the one hand, I am not a huge Asimov fan and don't remember loving Foundation, but on the other hand, I would like to read more about R. Daneel. The question I have is, what other books is he in? I have seen different lists and am not sure.
This book takes place about 200 years after the last Robots book. Elijah Bailey is dead and this is not a detective story the way the others were (yes, yes, hard core scifi detective stories with robots and so on and so forth). In this book the Solarians have vanished but ships trying to grab robots that were left behind do sell are being blown up. In addition, there is a plot afoot by a couple of Aurorans to destroy Earth.
I wasn't sure if I'd like it without Elijah, but there was a lot more between Giskard (first seen in the prior book) and Daneel that I enjoyed, plus Gladia is still around and a descendant of Elijah born on Baleyworld. There's a blurb if you want Naturally, there is stuff I just didn't buy, but that's part of the fun of this sort of scifi. Also, it can be a bit trying to read scifi written that long ago given modern technology (sure, it's got stuff that is more advanced, but there are just so many things that what we have now renders some of that speculation obsolete--rather like watching classic Trek with tube TVs for computer monitors.)
