Sarah (sarahmott) | 463 comments Ok the movie of this was super spooky ala Watcher in the Woods. If you’re a film lover, I’d totally check it out. I watched it on Criterion because I’m a nerd. But I think you can see it for a couple bucks on almost any platform.

That was the movie from the 1970s, right? I think one of the streaming services made a miniseries of it in 2018, too. I liked the movie alot. I didn’t see the miniseries version.

I read this book twice before, once a few years ago, so I won’t be re-reading it now. (Interlibrary loan won’t get to me in time.) It is very good and creepy, so I don’t think people will be disappointed with this group read.

Sarah (sarahmott) | 463 comments Whoa - I didn’t know about the TV series. I’m going to have to check that out.

Cheryl | 1168 comments Sarah,

If you liked PeterWeir’s movie of Picnic at Hanging Rock, you might want to check out his other weird Australian movie The Last Wave (1977). Maybe Criterion has it. When I last watched it, I saw it on Turner Classic Movies when they were showing his early Australian films. It features Aboriginal prophecy and strange things surrounding this.

Jennifer | 6 comments I'm intrigued by the blurb on this book. Starting it today!

Sarah (sarahmott) | 463 comments Ha! I’ve actually seen the Last Wave. Should have known it was the same guy. I heard that a lot of crazy things happened on the set while filming this movie. Apparently the cast and crew kept getting lost for hours at a time up on the cliff. I’ve seen several Reddit posts that people find themselves walking in circles up there for hours before the landscape seems to “change” and let them down.

I am about halfway through. THE ATMOSPHERE is great. Also,it really gives a sense of the natural surroundings in a way that few books do.
