~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Good Monday morning, Lemon Drops!! Hope everyone is doing well. I am about 50% finished with my book. Busy week this week and I will be heading back up to Shreveport to do more packing.

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 434 comments Finally starting to warm up a little in SC!

I might change my book. Not sure yet. I started one on Friday for another challenge that's due Wednesday...I gotta check for words though :)

message 155: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Danielle - I thought this book was for my other team challenge that's due Wednesday. So I started it first. But I was wrong! So sad. And I was hoping that it was shelved wrong and found it's way on the Demon shelf. But no such luck.
Hope the words are in your new book!

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 709 comments Week 3 ~ Angela's Ashes (Frank McCourt, #1) by Frank McCourt 3/3 ****

What a book! This was so sad.
Having Irish heritage I could definitely identify with a lot of content. I too heard family stories of my Grandad going to the pub with the money, whilst his children ate sugar sandwiches waiting for whatever was left of the meagre amount they were paid when he had, had his fill. In such hard times it is easy to see why the men did this but also disgraceful to think whilst they filled their bellies with ale the family starved and children died due to poverty and malnourishment.

A very well written memoir from a man's memories from his childhood in Ireland and America and the struggle families went through with poverty and the war. Have your tissues at the ready!

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 434 comments Okay I checked and I'm changing my book to Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance #4; Demonica #9) by Larissa Ione . It has all of the words. I'll be done between today and tomorrow.

And these challenges don't help, I think I'm lowering my TBR by participating but I keep adding other books that teammates like hahaha ;)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Danielle - great choice!!

Jade, I would definitely bump this series to the top of the list. It is sooooooooooooo good!!!

And yes, my TBR just groans when I start another team challenge because it knows more books will be joining LOL! I have not found anything that really works to shrink it.

Bonus: Grass
Opposition (Lux, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
3/3/15 4★

Review:
Very satisfying end to the series. Well sort of - I could've gone on and on. And it feels like their is a spinoff waiting to happen. But this one was full of action and pathos and romance. My only complaint was the amount of sex - which seems a strange thing to be complaining about. But given that we are in first person voice - it got a little tiring to continually hear Daemon's thoughts. But still loved the story and the writing.

Green I didn't recognize the green walls p. 45
Grass The grass looked overgrown p. 220

Child Holding the child close to her breast p. 22
Store the explosion rocked the store p. 23
Plate rattling the plates and cups p. 225

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 434 comments Week 3:

Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance #4; Demonica #9) by Larissa Ione - love the cover too.

I loved this book. Something about this one just really got me re-invested in the series. I've been reading since it's inception and the last couple of books had good moments but man I really BELIEVED the relationship, love, and struggles of Reseph and Jillian. It was beautiful, tragic, uplifting all that jazz. And add to that the awesome world that Larrissa Ione has created over the course of this series - such a great formula for this book.

I really liked all of glimpses of past characters. Larissa Ione does a great job of incorporating past characters into the story without it seeming like there are like 15 different story lines. Everyone's lines fit the space and it doesn't seem like fodder or filler to make the story longer. I especially felt for Reseph when everyone was so slow to forgive him which was TOTALLY understandable but still sucked because I think he's my favorite Horseman. PLUS this book technically falls into my favorite hero trope - the redeemable villain - more or less. And I'm more excited to read the next in the series especially with all the build up of the two main character Reaver and Harvester. We've been given lots of glimpses and clues for them over the course of the entire series... so ready to read their book!

Grass: "As she walked toward a blanket spread in the lush grass..." p.413
Green: "Doodle blinked his green eyes at her." p.7
Child: "You're like a big child, you know that?" p.49
Store: "Who did that when you could buy them at the store?" p.19
Plate: "She took a seat and gestured to Reseph's plate..." p.51

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 210 comments Sorry team - its been a tough old week for me. We can't seem to break my daughter's habit of waking up every two hours to feed. We tried last night and she literally screamed the house down. I am so tired and strung out and feeling like I can't cope with anything right now.

I have got about 80 pages of my book to finish and I will get it done before the next words are called but that's why I haven't been around much this week.

message 169: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) No worries, NancyHelen!! I totally feel for you. How old is she? Teething and growth spurts can all cause that to happen. Are you still breastfeeding? My grandbaby isn't sleeping through the night at the moment either and my DIL is looking pretty tired - and she only has 1!!

Remember I am driving tomorrow and won't be on the computer till after lunch.

Nice review, Danielle!! Loved that book as well.

message 170: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 210 comments She's 7 and a half months old now and she's on solid food, but yes, I am still breastfeeding. I know it won't last forever, but right now it feels like it will never end.

Drive safely tomorrow. I'll get my review up later this evening or first thing in the morning UK time which will still get it up before the new words are called.

And no worries on getting it done - we are doing great!!

Sunshine - how are you doing with your book?

Sunshine✰✰✰ | 478 comments Unfortunately the cough I've been battling the last couple of weeks decided to become a full-on sickness for the last few days so I'm only halfway through my book. Hubby works tonight so it's just me and the dogs so I'll be able to power read and get it done.

Luckily, the few times I have been able to get into my book, it flew by so it shouldn't be a chore!

message 173: by ~Leslie~ (new)

Well, it wasn't the most exciting book out there but it wasn't horrible either. I felt that Jolie accepted everything to easily.

"You're a powerful witch." "What?! No! I am? Ok."
"You have to live with me in England and we have to leave right now." "Now? Ok. Can my BFF come?"
"Vampires, Witches, & Warewolves? (Oh My!) At least they're allllll so sexy!"

Despite her world being turned upside down, Jolie takes it all in stride and does her best to learn about herself as well as finding some love. I will continue the series, but it's not at the top of my list.

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 210 comments Week 3

If on a Winter's Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino by Italo Calvino
Read: 5 Mar 2015
Rating: ★★★

I think this book would get a 4 star rating on a second, slower reading. It is 'experimental fiction' and as such, trying to read it whilst tired or rushed really doesn't work that well. It is a fascinating book though - Calvino explores what the novel is, what it means to be a reader and you are continually being tripped from being in the novel to being the reader of the novel. Part of it is written in the second person which is very difficult to succeed at, but Calvino does. You, the reader, manage to start some 10 different novels, but never get to finish one although you, the reader are a fundamental part of the 11th novel. It's worth a read - when you have time.

Green: "...the light is green, you're blocking traffic." p.7
Grass: "...until it comes to rest on the blades of grass." p.200
building: "I pass a ministry building..." p.244
child: "...followed by yelling children." p.80
plate: "...coming loose and falling into the plate." p.229

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 210 comments Thanks Jade! How annoying that Friend has come up seeing as we've claimed it already.

So, this week I'll read Lending a Paw (A Bookmobile Cat Mystery #1) by Laurie Cass . It has both friend and desk.

It has all remaining places, including America for country and Michigan for state.
For things it only has book and box (hope that is OK?)
It has all remaining colours except gold.

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 434 comments I'm 30% into my book. It's so fluffy!! I've gotten away from lighthearted stuff in the pnr/fantasy realm so I'm not a big fan of this story so far though I love this author's Elemental Assassin series.

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 709 comments Week 4 - Alex (Cold Fury Hockey, #1) by Sawyer Bennett Finished 10.03.14 *****

Well I have to admit I stayed up into the early hours to finish this in one sitting, I was hooked ;)

I have only read one previous series of Sawyer Bennett and really enjoyed so was hoping that by starting this new series 'Cold Fury' I wouldn't be disappointed, and let me tell you I wasn't.
Following a American Ice Hockey Team, Alex the team bad boy has to have an image change to boost his PR so is attached to a Drugs rehabilitation programme to help children and young adults suffering from addition. There he meets Sutton a social worker who he will be working along side. She makes he want things he never has previous and he finds himself falling in head first.

Great book, Sawyer Bennett manages to take Alpha to the next level, the book is filled with funny moments, toe curling erotica but still manages to keep a deep connection between the two characters. I looking forwards to carry on with the next book ;)

Friend: (no points) then he’s going to become my new best friend.
Desk: So I hold his look as he walks up to the desk
School:You don’t even look old enough to be out of high school
Box:when I see the look of surprise on his face from the size of the box
Silver: the team’s colors are black and silver

Wow! It's finally over. Great series. All the build-up over the last 8 books came to a head in the final world-changing battle. I love the ending. You get your happier-ever-after but it's not perfect. It shouldn't be. You don't have world-changing battles just to go back to the same thing. :)

You're not going to get a more detailed review cause you shouldn't be looking at this book unless you read all the others, and even then, you know what's coming! Trust me. It's good. You're going to be sad it's over, but happy it happened the way it did.
