It has all of the words you want to claim this week, Lesley, with England for Country.

Sunshine, I need to read that book for a challenge. I'll be interested to read what you think.

The 'Iron Druid' series is one of my favorite series. Oberon is a hoot :D

I wasn't sure about this book when I first started out, as my familiarity with the politics in Britain of the 1980s isn't that great, but actually this was a really entertaining memoir. It traced the course of a Labour supporter from idealism through to disillusionment and then to final acceptance during the long, dark years of Margaret Thatcher's rule. The books ends when 'New Labour' finally gain office in 1997 - an event I remember myself having arrived in Britain the year before. There are some incredibly funny recollections but what comes through most of all was the passion and heartbreak of the author. I think this is as much a coming-of-age book as a political book and I was really pleasantly surprised at just how much I enjoyed it.

Review:
I really struggled with this book, which is unusual as regency romances and Eloisa James usually leave me with a big smile and utter contentment. However this book just didn't do it for me it was tedious at times, it only started really to get going at 25% and then dwindled off again, until my interest was leaked for a second time at 34%.
The highlight of the whole book was one of the main characters Lady Sophie York she had a lot of spunk which I admire, but for someone so clever and well read she wasn't half naive at times! The relationships with her and various suitors throughout the beginning of the book just didn't sit well with me. An Earl wanting to marry her whilst setting up a concubine on the side? and telling his fiancé this? Her Father having extra marital affairs in the presents of her Mother.....
I also found the continuous talk of Napoleon tiresome, whilst he was mentioned through the book, I just didn't see the need. I realise it was set in that time period and the characters were English and French speaking but it just seemed unnecessary and abit too frequent.

Such a great book! Atticus has tons of humor but doesn't come off as a smart ass. He knows when to keep his mouth shut. His Irish wolfhound, Oberon, is great too. His current idol is Genghis Khan and he want's a harem of French Poodles! lol. I love the relationship between the two. Atticus shows affection for Oberon and proves he more than just a faithful sidekick. I did think the whole section with the cops at his business was too easy cleaned up, but over all, I couldn't put this down. I snuck reading it at work! Shhhh!

Review:
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first time I've read anything by Brooklyn Ann and it was a freebie so wins on both fronts!
I love historicals and I love paranormals but I don't think I've ever read the two together. I enjoyed the lead couple and I loved the heroine. Who doesn't love a bluestocking? And a liberal bluestocking at that! She was so fun and I really just liked her way of trying to break out of what society was trying to peg for her. I also liked how the author incorporated real people like Lord Byron and Mary Shelly. I really like this trope in any of my PNRs when they are establishing mythology or world building. I'm definitely going to continue this series and watch this author for more!

New take on Zombies. Would give more towards a 3.5. Once you are infected, these little metal shards fuse to your spinal cord and slowly take over your body. This leaves you as a weirdly metal spiked/ melted iron-looking creature, who, of course, wants to eat people. There's no known reason where this came from. Space? Lab? Government?
The first part of the story just follows a sparse crew on an oil rig up in the Artic Circle before the zombies float onto the scene upon a cruse ship. There's a little murder mystery in the background which I don't feel was necessary. I did like the bit that was from the POV of a certain character as they became infected and how the brain/body slowly changed. Then there was some stuff happening straight out of an episode of Lost. And true to the show, no explanation was given, just, poof!, now go with it...

Review:
Last and final book in the Drakon series and it was both beautiful and strangely unsatisfying at the same time. So many threads left hanging. Such a strange ending. And yet her language and her descriptive voice is so incredible that you just want to sink into the words. In this one we have Honor, who is a Time Weaver and Alexandru, the Prince of Zaharan Ice. Time traveling is always confusing and combine that with Lia's dreaming and it makes for a slightly confusing muddle. And yet, I was still caught up in it. More pondering is obviously needed.
