Micheala | 1458 comments Never Never by Colleen Hoover is our non-contemporary Monthly read for February.

Synopsis:

Best friends since they could walk. In love since the age of fourteen.
Complete strangers since this morning.
He'll do anything to remember. She'll do anything to forget.

Initial thoughts:
I don't know about anyone else here, but are you not just pulled in by this summary. How many books have a summary this short, but yet pulls so many people in? Not many! A lot of people are turned off by not knowing what they're getting into. In this case, it's just so grabbing.

Spoilers ahead--Proceed with caution!

Chapter One
The book starts out in Charlie's perspective. Charlie is a high school girl who seems to not know who she is and remembers nothing before knocking a pile of books from someone's hands.
There's not a whole lot to say on this chapter because readers and characters alike are thrown into this plot with no idea at all what is going on. It's not amnesia (from what we know, but there was no accident) so how would someone just forget their life? Her friends, her boyfriend, Silas, who she goes along with knowing just so she looks less lost in this life.

Chapter Two
Very similar to Chapter one, but now we are in Silas' head. He also has no idea what is going on and has no recollection of his life nor Charlie. He just goes along with what his "friends" are telling him. The two characters get together and admit they don't remember anything past the book dropping.

Chapter Three
Silas and Charlie jump into Silas' vehicle, and thanks to the GPS spot marked "home" they go to his house and look around, trying to use the pictures as a trigger for memory. They debate the hospital but decide against it.

They end up in Silas' room. He finds a camera, and though he has no memories of WHEN he used it, he knows exactly everything there is to it.

The chapter ends with him calling Charlie over to the unmade bed, and she goes, "Oh, my God!"
That's how it ends!! So how many of you HAD to go on after that? (I know I did)

Initial thoughts
Very intriguing beginning!!

Deanna (anovelglimpse) I had to read the book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down! I LOVED it! I can't wait for May for the next part of the story!

Tara Bond | 13 comments This is my first time joining a group discussion. I'd been planning to read Never Never anyway, as I love Colleen Hoover, but thought it might be fun to join in. Just a quick question though (I haven't started reading yet) - why is this non-contemporary? Or would answering that question be a spoiler? Thanks for your help! x

I had been meaning to read this as well, and never got around to it until it was chosen for the group read. Then I started it so I can lead the discussion. It was a good push to read.

I haven't read it all, so i can't give you a definite answer. But it's a mystery and so far seems like it's magic realism as well. You'll see why early on in it once you start reading it.

Brilliant - thank you for the reply! I was just curious because having read a lot by Colleen Hoover, I couldn't imagine this was historical, which is where my mind immediately goes with "non-contemporary"! So thanks for clearing that up. x

haha no prob

Jenn Sternshein (bookdorkjenn) i've been meaning to read this book also... so i'm thinking i'll start tonight... i love reading what everyone else's comments as i read... i love both authors on this book also so that is a plus.. I hope you'll join Tara :)

Tara Bond | 13 comments Well, II raced through the first three chapters, and I definitely agree with Micheala's description of them as "intriguing". I love a good mystery, and like the characters, I have absolutely no clue what is going on! I cheated a little, because the cliffhanger at the end of chapter 3 was too much, and so I read the first half page of chapter 4 to find out what Charlie had seen! I can't wait to read the rest, although I understand that this is only the first part of the story, so I'm prepared for a frustrating wait for the next instalment. Out of interest, does anyone know (or can tell?) which of the authors wrote which parts? I'm familiar with Colleen Hoover, but haven't read any Tarryn Fisher yet - although that will have to be rectified after never Never!

lol. I know the mystery is great.
I don't know, but I've been wondering that too. I'd assume one wrote Charlie and the other did Silas, but I don't know who did who

When you have stuff to say about the next three chapters when you read it, we also have a discussion place for that :)

Glad you pointed that out! I wondered when we were reading the next 3 chapters! xxx
