“To Kill a Kingdom” by Alexandra Christo is a standalone, enemies-to-lovers book about a siren princess and a human prince. The book switches point-of-views between Princess Lira and Prince Elian. On their birthday, each siren gets to take the heart of a human they choose to get more powerful. Princess Lira specifically chooses to only get the hearts of princes. After disobeying her mother one day, she was forced to turn into a human and was tasked to retrieve Prince Elian’s heart before winter solstice. If she fails to do this, she will have to stay as a human forever.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a pretty good standalone to binge through. It gave me a lot of “The Little Mermaid” vibes because she gets transformed into a human. Unlike Ariel however, Lira did not choose to be transformed to a human voluntarily. In fact, she hates humans. This book only has around 350 pages so it was a quick read. The beginning was a little slow for my liking, but it got better as the book moved forward.
