Eden Sharp | 10 comments I teach fiction writing and publishing at SSU and currently have some film students creating a book trailer for me. They're really enthusiastic as this is not the kind of project they normally get to work on and the closest they'll get to producing something similar to a movie trailer.

It's fantastic for their portfolios and for the work experience and they'd love to do more if any writers/authors are interested?

Piper Templeton (pipertempleton) Hi Eden,

I am interested in finding out more. I self-published a book in June 2014 and I don't have a trailer for it. I might also be interested when I finish my second novel. Can you give me details as far as cost and how I would go about it?

Thanks!
Piper

Eden Sharp | 10 comments Hi Piper,

A figure of around £100-200 was discussed. Of course it depends on what you want.

For example, my book is set in San Francisco but I live in the UK so this means getting creative. There are all sorts of options from stock footage and video, voice overs, graphics, text etc. We have all the facilities - professional equipment, editing suites, actors etc. Project clients are often not local and converse via Skype etc.

If you want to chat about it some more please feel free to mail me at [email protected] and I'll put you in touch with the admin people that organise these things.

In the meantime, here are a few links of book trailers that I showed to students to give them an idea of what was out there. These range from the big budget to quite simple. (Bear in mind that these are for horror/crime/gritty-type novels but I wanted to show a variety of ideas: one that's very simple, then there's the Hollywood style, one that just uses words as graphics and an animated option.)

I'll be posting my trailer up when it's finished and hopefully this will give some indication of what's possible regardless of who makes your trailer.

Lorraine Loveit | 1 comments Hi. With the help of my PA we did this one for the release of my 4th book in a series. Its not really a book trailer. I just did a slide show and she added the music and made the video. Best part is its free!

Cynthia Miller (cinzia8) | 6 comments Hi:

My debut novel On the Edge of Sunrise was released this week. I have a trailer I would like to add to my profile and share with the group, but I need a GR librarian to do this. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

It's a song called Full Moon Bloodlust by Volknor.

When the moonlight strikes me, I am filled with power. In an evil age, in my darkest hour. Death and Destruction are the pleasures of my life. A lonely life filled with agony. Here I stand upon this Ledge with sword in hand I hereby pledge. That in the full moon's waning light. I shall make my Sacrifice. The Fog drifts down the hills into my dark domain. My senses sharp and I Insane. Into the woods I go with the moonlight as my guide. I now creep like the mist and from my wrath you can not hide. I shall avenge all I have lost. Behold the coming of death with your now ending immortal life. I shall make my sacrifice. Unto the goddess of the night. I shall make my sacrifice.

Cynthia Miller (cinzia8) | 6 comments The trailer for my romantic historical novel On the Edge of Sunrise was produced by Avalon Graphics. The story is set in late ancient Rome 450 AD. The Empire is crumbling as the Huns invade Gaul. The emperor Valentinian III sends a remarkable envoy, Arria Felix, to enlist the Frank barbarians against Attila. When she meets Garic, the First Counsel to the Frank tribe, she must choose between duty to her country or her forbidden love.

D.A. Paul (dapaul) | 7 comments I made mine not too long ago! I used my husband's GoPro footage, then did his makeup to try and make him look dead. It was completely free, though I did have bribe him with pizza and beer to have him do the makeup part.

Has anyone ever used stock videos for a book trailer? I'm using a stock image that I bought for my cover, and was considering doing a second trailer.
