Currently reads the Wayfarer Saga in German:

I finished The Monsters We Defy. It was decent, but not sure I was quite in the mood for it.

Now I'm reading The Library at Mount Char. I've wanted to read this one for a while.

Wicked: Life and times of the witch of the west!!! I do plan to finish it this weekend or by tuesdaWicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the WestWicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the Westy if I have the time. I also have been on the hunt for HOOKY 1 and 2, Absence of a cello, and some books by alan gratz (I really really really loved refugee and ground zero.)

Hello from the land of fresh starts and new pages! I'm Elie, embarking on the adventure titled "Newly Published Author Discovers Goodreads." Spoiler: It's a roller-coaster.

After bringing my debut fantasy novel to life, Goodreads popped into my view. Crafting tales is a passion of mine, but mapping out the nooks and crannies of this club? That's a quest I'm still on.

Lol, I still have no idea how to work this group. I like reading what everyone else has read and getting recommendations. The ratings from everyone have been helpful, and from time to time, there are encouragements to read books that you've been procrastinating on. I don't really see chatting amongst the members, but maybe that is on other forms.

...and since we're talking about the books that we're reading, does anyone have a book recommendation for a magic and wizardry enthusiast? I've always been enamored with stories, be it through movies or the spoken word. But it's the intimate connection that reading offers, which cinema can't capture, that truly stole my heart. This passion led me to embark on a journey, pouring my heart and soul into writing my debut book, which is the last book I recently read... around 50 times 😆. Now, with an even greater hunger for enchanting tales, I'd truly appreciate your magical recommendations.

Are you looking for wizardry only? Or would you welcome a fantasy recommendation? Although, these recommends are less enchanting through it's magic, and more beautiful through it's character completion and world building

Ideally both. I'd love something that can transport you into another enchanting reality with a compelling story that keeps you engrossed. I would be grateful for any recommendations you might have.

Ok, my favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. I'm an aspiring author, and I want to be able to write stories as beautifully and complex as he does. His books are fantasy; however, they feel tangible. His magic systems are complex, but they become real. My favorite books by him are his Mistborn (Era 1, although I loved Era 2) series and Warbreaker. All of his adult fiction books are in the same universe, and it's so cool (should you like his books). I highly recommend Mistborn, and I want to name my kid after the main character (Kelsier). The book series is a mix of fantasy, political intrigue, and dystopia. It is hilarious and also dark. My favorite part is the characters. They are real people with hopes, dreams, and failures. All of Sanderson's characters have flaws, and that's my favorite part. You aren't rooting for some hero you never could be. You are rooting for a man who is broken by his past. A man who is only living to defy the Lord Ruler because he has nothing else. A man who is mildly unhinged and a magnificent madman.

Oh! Another book I love is by a woman named K. M. Weiland. She is not a well-known author, but she wrote one of my favorite books. It is called Dreamlander. The book explores the idea of "what would happen if your dreams were really you in another world?" Once every generation, there is a person who can cross over from our world and into the other. I loved this book so much because it was so fascinating, and the ending was beautiful. I haven't read it in a while, so I've been planning to re-read it in a month or so (once I get through my list of books 😅)

Both have been added to my 'want to read' list! Thank you so much. The way you've described them is truly captivating, which makes me curious about what you would think of my writing. While my first book is a fantasy, it may not be quite in line with your usual picks, as it’s intended for what i describe 'young minds' and the 'young at heart.' The books you've recommended appear to be for a more mature audience.

I made the mistake of watching the movie first, which pales in comparison to the books.
Regarding my own book, it's titled ''The Boy Who Found a Magic Wand.'' I'm not certain it'll be to your taste XD

Haha, indeed. I have the same sentiment toward M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Last Airbender.'
And btw, It was actually the release of my book that led me to discover Goodreads, which is why I feel like I'm a bit late to the book club party.

Hey all, new to this group. I'm currently reading The Way of Kings, I've never read Sanderson and have been recommended this series over all his others if I had to choose only one to read. Loving it so far! and love seeing the difference in writing style compared to GRRM, Gaiman, etc.

Brandon Sanderson is one of the authors you should always have an eye on for sure!

Also new to the group. I'm taking a long due break from LitRPG and game lit books. While there are some credible exceptions, too many in this genre have great ideas with rather sub par execution in both writing styles and grammar. The transition was a serendipitous accident. My theme lately has run towards books focusing on crafting skill: characters who find satisfaction in the simple act of creating with their hands. That led to The Crafter's Son by Mathew B Berg. Delightfully well written, especially compared to many LitRPG, but that's setting a very low bar! This books is pure fantasy.

The Crafter's Son is about a boy unexpectedly thrust on a journey after finding out that his beloved parents adopted him. As a 16 year from a small village near a rather provincial "backwater" town, Breeden is unprepared when he is abruptly told by his parents that his blood father needs him to help save the world. Wow.

While Brennan has experienced some unexplained magical abilities, he inwardly scoffs at the idea that he, A commoner, could have any part in this.

Berg tells a tale of several friends who have been thrust apart, and a world that has been threatened by The Dark God. Numerous allusions to LOTR, Harry Potter, and other literary giants.

It's nice to read a book while not inwardly critiquing how poorly written something is (while still enjoying the overall experience).

I just finished The House in the Cerulean Sea. It was cute. I enjoyed it. I also recently finished The Trials of Apollo series by Rick Riordan. Loved that series.

Now I'm starting The Hexologists.

It's definitely very interesting. It's the trope of the heroine finding herself in the role of the villainess of a dating game, but it handles it very well.

I finished The Library at Mount Char. One of the weirdest books I’ve ever read. I shouldn’t have liked it, but I really did.
