Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished The Blood Jaguar. I didn't like it much. Poor writing.

I'm now heading back to Valdemar and reading The Oathbound.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Here's what I finished in March. The Way of Kings is something I had been reading off and on for years and finally finished it.

The Windup Girl ★★
The Blood Jaguar ★★
The Way of Kings ★★★★
The Hidden Oracle ★★★★

message 405: by Nakeeta (new)

Nakeeta Mother of dogs currently reading: Malice by John Gwyne, Crescent City by SJM and Eragon by C. Paolini. I know I'm crazy cause I read 3 or 4 books at a time. lol.

Joseph | 1651 comments My March:

Across the Green Grass Fields ★★★★★
In Mercy, Rain ★★★★★
Skeleton Song ★★★★★
Juice Like Wounds ★★★★★
A Treasury of Fantasy ★★★★
The Rage of Dragons ★★★★
The Fires of Vengeance ★★★★
Mazirian the Magician ★★★★★
Cugel the Clever: (previously titled The Eyes of the Overworld) ★★★★★

(Less impressive than it looks -- most of the books at the top of the stack were novella or even novelette length. But on the other hand, Treasury of Fantasy was a big anthology that included no less than three full-length novels, so it kind of balances out.)

message 408: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. This is going to take a while.

message 410: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished The Oathbound. It was really good. Loved the two main protagonists. I've moved on to book two: Oathbreakers.

message 413: by Charlton (new)

Charlton (cw-z) About a 5th of the way into The Night Parade.

message 414: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished Babel: An Arcane History. It was good. Last third or so was a little extreme, but still good. I found it really interesting and the magic system was very cool and clever.

I'm back to sci-fi. Reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

message 415: by Elise (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I'm revisiting some childhood favorites: The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.

message 418: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished the Prydain books (including the short story collection The Foundling and Other Tales of Prydain, which I had never read back in the day) and, on a whim, started Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, the no-longer-canonical book that started the whole Star Wars revival back in the 90s.

message 420: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. It was really good.

message 428: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished Oathbreakers. To be honest, I found it kind of boring, so I'm taking a break from Lackey. Reading Waypoint Kangaroo now.

message 429: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 815 comments Cupcake Girls: Part 5 of The Vixen War Bride Series by Thomas Doscher

Which, despite the title, is military SF

message 439: by Tifani (new)

Tifani Newton (theimpalednewt) | 29 comments I just finished the Rithmatist, and I absolutely loved the ending. I can’t believe it’s been ten years, and I choose to believe there will be a second book. The characters were amazing, and I cannot wait for the second book.

message 440: by Charlton (new)

Charlton (cw-z) The 2nd book is called The Aztlanian.

A Quote from Brandon Sanderson.
"A glimmer of light for you Rithmatist fans is this: my son just read the book, and he’s joined the crowd calling for me to do a sequel. So you have an in-house representative."

message 441: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments After blasting through the entire* John Carter of Mars series in about two weeks, I'm starting my vacation reading a couple days early -- this year it's Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Death Gate cycle, beginning with Dragon Wing.

*These days, I skip "John Carter and the Giant of Mars", the first half of John Carter of Mars, because it was apparently ghost-written by his son, is canon-breaking, and is kind of terrible.

message 443: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished Waypoint Kangaroo. Not bad space thriller. Nothing amazing.

I've had my fill of space books now (still in the middle of one), so it's back to fantasy for me with Fourth Wing.

message 446: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished The Hand of Chaos (fifth in the Death Gate Cycle) and had to pivot to Thieves' World for an upcoming book club discussion I'm taking part in.

message 447: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Just finished two books in June.

Tress of the Emerald Sea ★★★★★
Waypoint Kangaroo ★★★

message 448: by Tifani (new)

Tifani Newton (theimpalednewt) | 29 comments I just finished Mistborn, and I deeply admire Sanderson and his skills. This book had so many diverse and creative characters, and Sanderson did the unforgivable, and it only made Mistborn that much better. He broke the rule in writing, but it was a genius move. I aspire to have his level of skill when it comes to my own writings.

Charlton (cw-z) Tifani wrote: "I just finished Mistborn, and I deeply admire Sanderson and his skills. This book had so many diverse and creative characters, and Sanderson did the unforgivable, and it only made Mistborn that muc..."

If you liked The Mistborn Trilogy, I think you would like the Wax & Wayne Series (4 books). :)

message 450: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I just finished Space Unicorn Blues. It was a weird book, but kind of fun.

Now I'm reading Brandon Sanderson's secret project 2: The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England.
