Summer is officially over! I’m the rare individual that doesn’t care much for Summer, so I’m never too sad to see it go. I do miss Summer Reading though! Keep your eyes out because we should be announcing our prize drawing winners soon! Thank you to everyone on here who participated this year! Now onto the Wrap Up.
This month I read…
Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell- This was a fun conclusion to a fun series. I enjoyed this one much more than the 2nd once for sure. I really didn’t expect to enjoy this book or series as a whole as much as I did. I love it when books surprise you in that way.
The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick- If you aren’t familiar with The Lizzie Bennet now is the time to run, no walk, to Youtube and watch the web series. It’s a wonderfully fun modern day retelling of Pride and Prejudice that is almost 10 years old now, but still holds up beautifully. They released this book as a companion to the web series and I hadn’t read it so I decided to rewatch the series while reading through this book. I definitely would not recommend reading this book without having watched the web series as well, but it is a good read that compliments the web series well.
The Moonlight Child by Karen McQuestion- The premise of this book sucked me in and while this wasn’t a bad book per say it definitely wasn’t great. The characters seemed unrealistic and their actions didn’t seem to make sense sometimes (Niki just casually asking where Jacob where he lives while he is buying things at the Gas Station, I mean if a cashier just randomly asked me that while ringing up my items it would certainly raise a few red flags in my brain). It also was pretty predictable as far as the storyline goes. Despite the unrealistic characters and predictable nature it still kept me engaged to the end though.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson- I warned you this one was coming, haha. Listening to this book on Audiobook reaffirmed for me how well the Graphic Novel tells this powerful story. Even after many years this book still feels so timely and relevant. An all time favorite for sure. My audiobook had an amazing and captivating afterward by Jason Reynolds as well which was a great addition.
