Heather (heather_feather) | 19 comments I'm new here also. After devouring the Sookie Stackhouse novels I dove head first into the Anita Blake series. After reading the first 10 books, I needed a break and read on Charlaine Harris' blog about the Night Huntress series. OMG! Am I ever glad I did!! Loved them! Had to request Destined for an Early Grave to be purchased for my local library and I'm waiting for it to come in. I'm so happy I found this group on goodreads, I read through many, many threads last night and I'm impressed by what I read. I'm honored to be in the company of so many smart, witty, and charming women! I'm sure the men on here are smart and witty as well, so don't hate! I'm happy to be here!

Tonya | 179 comments Welcome Heather! The Night Huntress series is the best!!! I just finished One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, #2) by Jeaniene Frost and I need to go buy the 3rd in the series as my library only had the first and last. I am too impatient for them to order it and get it in. I also loved the Sookie books, they are great!
Again welcome, this is a great group.

Heather (heather_feather) | 19 comments I'm distracting myself from fretting over DfaEG by taking small sips from Crulean Sins. I'm also reading chapter 32 from OFItG repeatedly to satisfy my, ahem, Bones cravings.

message 4: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

FlibBityFLooB hehe! Bones cravings :)

I think you'll find many a Bones fan around this group *grin*

Check out the Moon Called series by Patricia Briggs. Well, actually, check out ALL of her series Heather. Also Tanya Huff and Nalini Singh. If you like darker try out Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 253 comments Welcome to the group Heather! I totally love the Anita Blake and Night Huntress series! Wait until you guys read Destined for an Early Grave, it's AWESOME! I have to say it's probably my fav altho I LOVED At Grave's End!! I highly recommend Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series :)

message 7: by Heather (new)

Heather (heather_feather) | 19 comments Ohhhh, I can't wait to read it!

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments I haven't seen anyone else mentioning the Jennifer Rardin books. Has anyone else read them? A new one is due and I cant wait to read it.

Heather (heather_feather) | 19 comments I just read the reviews of Full Moon Rising and I'm definitely adding it to my TBR lust, I mean list. I also ordered Dark Lover. Can I get two clones of myself (one to perform motherly duties, the other for wifely duties not pertaining to the bedroom) so I can enjoy my newest obsessions in peace? ;). Thanks ladies!

message 10: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments LOL, Heather! Welcome to the group! You'll get some great recs here! I'll start you off with the big names:

J.R. Ward (Probably the most popular, as you may have noticed in other threads)
Patricia Briggs
Nalini Singh
Richelle Mead (increasingly popular)

They all have different series, so if you need more specific recs, come back to us and we can tell you what to expect from each. :D

message 11: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments Oh yes! The Riley Jensen series is great, and fascinates me even more, as it's set in my town, Melbourne, Australia, and it's fascinating as she talks about different places.

message 12: by Heather (new)

Heather (heather_feather) | 19 comments That's how I feel about books that are set in Louisiana. I love knowing exactly where the author is writing about, makes it very personal. Do all of JR Ward's books take place in New Orleans?

message 13: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Sorry, Heather, all of Ward's books take place in NY as far as I know. But they're great! I do get what you're saying though, about wanting to read a book because the setting is familiar. There's a series set in the Chicagoland area, and that's their main appeal for me, LOL.

message 14: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments Many of the first of the Dark Hunter series from Sherrilyn Kenyon (also extremely highly recommended) are set in New Orleans. In Acheron, some of it is set at a Habitat worksite where Ash is volunteering. Cant you just imagine Ash in overalls and sweat, doing tradie work? Wow!!!

lol, I know what you all mean about books taking place where you live.

Most of the books written about where I live are histories and set either in Revolutionary or Civil War periods.

Altho more and more, my town is becoming a bedroom community of DC. Ok, about 80% work there, with the remaining 20% work in service industries and retail. But I'm a Navy brat, so whenever I read a book about anywhere I lived when growing up, I love it. Plus of course, anything from Richmond to the south to Baltimore to the north classify as "my town" any more. East to Williamsburg and west to West VA/VA line. Quite a territory, no? My neighbors work in all those areas and/or we travel there a good bit--or we used to before my arthritis got so bad. Now I just make the trips 6 or so times a year.

Then we get into places where I have FAMILY living. :o) Baton Rouge, Meridian, Hogansville, San Antonio, San Diego, Phoenix, Danville, Jacksonville (and yes, its the Jacksonville that Sookie visited).

RogueHireling (rogue_hireling) | 156 comments Hey Heather, I'm a Newbie too! I started with the Charlain Harris books, then read the Laurel K Hamilton fairy books and have been hooked ever since. Okay that makes it sound like its been forever, but really that all happened in teh past 4-5 months.
Then I found this group, and figured I would most likely remain a lurker, but then got sucked into Yz's fabulous Monthly reading challenges. I highly recommend them if you have time. Its also a great way to get through to read lists. =D

I love Jaz and Vayl and am definitely looking forward to the new book. And I have a serious soft spot for Cole, so I'm glad to see he's going to feature heavily in this one again. =)

message 18: by Sally (new)

Sally (larwos) | 258 comments Lovely characters, aren't they? I'm with you in liking Cole. If Vayl wasn't just right for Jaz, I'd be rooting for Cole, but if he can get someone of his own I'd be thrilled.

message 19: by Heather (new)

Heather (heather_feather) | 19 comments Just picked up Dark Lover. Should I finish Cerulean Sins first?
