Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon discussion

Our first reading long lap warmup starts now and runs through midnight September 19. Read as many books/pages/hours as you can and log your progress in this thread. You can set a TBR or just read what you feel like reading next, log whatever you want to, and pick themes or not, as you wish.
Our second Long Lap will start September 20th, and run a week long. Lap 3 will be 2 weeks, and lap 4 will be about 2 weeks long, terminating at the start of our Readathon.

Hahaha, I think you’re right Lynnette! Hadn’t done the math but we’re short 1 week of sprints/laps…

You guys are right. I'd thought about doing 5 laps, and settled on 4 instead, so I was off a bit. I made the last one ~2 weeks long, so it should work out now. I plan to do some short sprints in that last week too, as we build up momentum for the big day. :)

Tell me the difference between laps and sprints please. Newer to this

@Lynnette:
Sprints are short times of reading, like an hour or half an hour, usually we read together.
Laps are longer, like one or two weeks. Each reads in their own time.

Yep, Suzy described it pretty well. I am not sure if 'laps' are really a thing yet in the reading world, but I figured that if we have short concentrated reading times called 'sprints', we can also have longer, individually paced reading times called 'laps'. I don't know if I've seen these 1-2 week reading challenges called laps before, but I'll be tickled if the term catches on for future readathons. :)
