Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments Took it easy this week (as I know wheel is about to happen and I'll be reading lots. Calm before the storm and all that, lol), but have now finished Witches Abroad.

Gonna go back to reading Gone with the Wind for a couple of days, and will start on vampires when wheel kicks off :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 303 comments Just posted my last witch week book! Also, I think the two people who posted before me (Cat and Karen) posted around the same time, so it affected our point counting since they both counted from the person who posted a few hours before? Anyone else want to confirm? I updated my book post to include the new number but I’d love someone else to verify too :)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments I think you're right Kaley!

Also, WTG team! :D

message 55: by D.L. (new)

D.L. I verified. You are right! So we've got 93 points currently. YAY. TY, everyone!

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments I checked after I posted, but 'cos Karen came after me, didn't spot the clash.

Well spotted!

Now waiting for 9pm UK to roll around before starting a vamp book :)

Ditto. I'll actually be going to bed early just so I can start reading. Just hoping they'll stop with the @#&£ing fireworks by then!

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 303 comments Thanks for double checking for me! Good job everyone!!

Stacey | 178 comments I’m so close to finishing a second witch book. Still have a few hours, will do my best! Wonderful job with the points!

message 61: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Here's to an amazing first week, Team Hob Goblin! I have my first book lined up to hopefully begin right at midnight: Crossroads. Then after that, I want to tackle Dead Until Dark. I've had the Sookie Stackhouse on my TBR shelf since forever. :)

message 62: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments Got it read just in time and I think I got the points correct. Vampire book is ready!

I started that one last night. I have most of the series which I picked up at our local Little Free Library. It's not bad so far, even if the MC appears to be a complete idiot (I have it on good authority that gets better as the book and series progress, lol)

Great job, teams!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments Managed an extra book for this week, Let the Right One In.

Doubt I'll get around to any others this week, but will start on my werewolf book when I finish my current print book :)

yay! I think the were week is going to be tricky for me, though I do have a couple with Angua coming up.

message 67: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments My Angua books are still a way off, so I'm making do with Stephen King :D

Yay! My favourite! Say hi to Moist for me...

Stacey | 178 comments Just finished Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler . Who wouldn't love a young, strong female vampire who has been genetically altered to be able to deal with daylight better?

Now I have to figure out if I can fit in another vampire book or if I should switch to werewolves.....

message 71: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments Fledgling was awesome! Have you read more Butler?

message 72: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments Cat wrote: "Fledgling was awesome! Have you read more Butler?"
I haven't, but I need to. I did have one of her books on my TBR but now I need to actually read it. Any recommendations?

message 73: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments Kindred is excellent, though is about slavery. And I recently enjoyed Lilith's Brood.
Parable of the Talents/ Sower are a bit more tricky - they are good, but I had to be in the mood for it - my first attempt was a fail!

message 74: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments I've heard good things about Kindred recently. I have Lilith's Brood and Wild Seed on my list. I'll definitely try them before the Parable books.

message 75: by D.L. (new)

D.L. I am working my way thru my second read. I should have it done soon :)

message 76: by Pasty Hag (new)

Pasty Hag | 88 comments I just finished The Historian and I'm feeling quite accomplished. I used to never be able to commit to a book if it was over 430 pages or so.

This may be my only contribution for the vampire week (The Historian is 4 points) but I may squeeze in one more before the end of tomorrow.

Happy spooky reading, everyone!

Kate (kcbond) | 27 comments I've been gone all week at a family funeral (spanning two states and lots of hours in the car). Back home but no vampire audiobooks with three generations in the car. Will just finish one.

Sorry to hear about your family's loss. Offering my condolences!

message 79: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments Kate, sorry to hear about your loss.

I've added my werewolf book. Not sure if I can do a second, not my favorite genre, but maybe I'll fit in a short one.

message 80: by D.L. (new)

D.L. How is everyone liking their werewolf reads? I am still working on my first one but I'm enjoying it. It's called Need & it's quite unique, nothing like anything I've read before. I should be done with it soon.

Oh gods, I read SUCH a bad one! It worked for a different challenge, but I was not happy! plus side was that it was short :)

Bad: The Werewolf Pack

The others, one was a Pratchett, so guaranteed good, and the other a very light romance: The Werewolf Meets His Match.

All in all, not my favourite week so far, and I'm not likely to add another to the tally, sorry guys! But I am getting ready for zombies!

message 82: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments I'm doing a publication order reread, and want to save my next Discworld for zombie week - Making Money, which features Mr Slant the lawyer :) (and, of course, the inimitable Moist!)

message 83: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments I'm loving my werewolf book, The Talisman (as expected, it is one of my favourites!), and should be finishing it before heading home Friday morning.

I don't wanna. I wanna stay by the seaside! lol.

message 84: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments I read Those Across the River, it was good but really heavy. 1950s in a southern formerly plantation town. I managed to start a second which is a much lighter/fun read. Soulless which I really needed after that one.

Zombie week! Any recommendations?

Thanks! Girl with all the Gifts was good, but I loved the 2nd book, The Boy on the Bridge, better. Have you read it?

I've read some really good zombie books, but there are so many out there of differing qualities and styles. I'll check out the others!

message 86: by Pasty Hag (new)

Pasty Hag | 88 comments Is anyone doing the Dewey readathon this weekend? I'm hoping to get some books finished with the momentum from the readathon. I have barely read anything all week and have only contributed 1 werewolf book!

message 87: by D.L. (last edited Oct 22, 2021 04:10PM) (new)

D.L. Hey, friends. I have 2 zombie books on Kindle that I can loan if anyone needs them. They are It All Started & Lightning Strikes. I haven't read either but I thought I'd share since I have other books lined up for zombie reads next week. If anyone wants them, let me know here or message me and I'll get them to you :)

message 88: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments yeah, sorry, I transposed by accident. we are on 259 now (256 + Zeejane's 3)

I am a little slow on the draw guys but here are the scores from the last two weeks...

Vampire week ending scores:
Monster Mashers - 181
Hob Goblins - 167

Werewolf week ending scores:
Monster Mashers - 245
Hob Goblins - 235

Still a pretty close game. Either team could win this war during Zombie week!

message 90: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments Had a surprise bonus book for zombie week! Book of ghost stories I just finished had one with a zombie. Woohoo!

Doubt there will be any others this week, so I suspect this was my last book for the challenge :)

message 91: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments Wow, very close. I'll finish a second book. I'm going to try for a third, but no promises.

message 92: by D.L. (new)

D.L. I finished my first zombie book. It's been a *crazy* week so I will try to complete a second one but no guarantees. I have certainly enjoyed doing this challenge. Even if we don't win, I've enjoyed being on this team. Thanks everyone for showing up and showing out!

message 93: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I agree D.L. This has been a lot of fun, thank you everyone!

message 94: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments Definitely! I'll come play again some time (just not the thanksgiving one, because I doubt I'll manage most of the themes, lol).

Also, I finished a book yesterday in which someone has a servant who happens to be dead (but still doing their duties, lol). Count as zombie?

message 95: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Sammy, my vote says it's a zombie.

message 96: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3793 comments Awesome, good enough for me :D

message 97: by Stacey (new)

And Sammy, yes, I think that is the definition of zombie. I vote yes too.

Are you guys enjoying the game?

What was your favorite theme?

Any suggestions for future Theme Wars?

message 100: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments Yes, I enjoyed it!

How about Travel, with four continents? exclude Europe & N America to make it more tricky?
