TART Challenge - Round 4 - Chapter Chicks (9)

Pleasantly retired after crazy job, hockey galore, and all that stuff. I live in Ottawa, Canada. Kids in Toronto :( Son doing grad studies in epidemiology & covid.

Oh my goodness that sounds like a terribly stressful job. I thought mine was bad (and it was). LOL
What an opportunity to take some time away, be more present for your kids (wish I could have done that), and find what else you like doing - or maybe that's not so hard.
Travelling has been great (we get a lot of travel health insurance!). So far my fav spot was Thailand. It'll be a while before we can go to Asia & developing countries again with their struggles to get vaccines, etc.

I found these on another group's thread to record our tasks & decisions as we go forward.
If Shan-A this is ago...M & Maggie, with your experience...any interest in doing something like it for the group? or less less complicated?

Shan-A,
Yes, I am spying on the other groups to see their set-ups. LOL
This one seems common & put at the top of their thread.
I'll set up in message 5 to see what people think.
If you think it's not great, we can scratch this. :)

yes, great! let's put it in message 5! have you seen that? do you think it's ok?

Some more suggestions...some popular names...Sorry.
1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task
b. Devney Perry
c. Kristen Ashley
d. Jill Shalvis
e. Jana Aston
f. Kayley Loring
g. Lisa Kleypas
Maggie Note: authors c - g are fine with me.
9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task...
b. Cloverleigh Farms series by Melanie Harlow
c. In Death series by J.D Robb (3 have this on TBR/new to M)
Maggie's Note: J.D. Robb, or her Nora Roberts' books are fine with me. I can do some "books like" searching to see if we can come up with other series like In Death.
??? d. The Kiss Quotient series (New release: The Heart Principle) by Helen Hoang (All 4 have one on their TBR)
Maggie's Note: This series also works for me as do similar series such as The Brown Sisters, The Bromance Book Club, or others in that ilk.
e. The Brooklyn Book Boyfriends series by Kayley Loring (all have read Loring)
Maggie's Note: Kayley Loring, Max Monroe, and Pippa Grant are my go to automatic feel better sunshine authors. I will reread or read anything these ladies write without any arguments. Kayley is a one click author for me.
51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.
a. Nora Roberts
b. Darynda Jones
d. Kristen Ashley (3 have TBR for this/Mony for re-read)
e. Jill Shalvis
f. Jana Aston (3 have TBR for this/ Mony for re-read)
g. Kayley Loring
h. Lisa Kleypas
i. Jennifer Crusie
New suggestions from Maggie
j. Claire Kingsley(Similar to Jill and Lisa in her Bailey and Miles series)
k. Max Monroe (Similar to Kayley and not sports based. Does offer stand alones. Mainly billionaire reads. All rom coms)
l. Amy Daws (similar to Jana Aston)
Maggie's Note: Added some suggestions, no worries if they won't work for us. I'm good with the authors on the original list. Darynda Jones is the only one I hadn't heard of before, however, she looks like a great read based on the two book blurbs I read. Many of these authors are favorites of mine and rereading won't be an issue for me at all.

Yes. I think Msg 5 is great and probably will help MKat fact check.
It looks like Shan is the only one who can edit that message so I'll pop my info below into the thread.
Then I need to pop off to bed. It's midnight here. I lost track of time. I'm a night owl.

1. I'm okay with any of the authors you posted in addition to the ones I had. KA of course is my favorite, and I've been on an LK reading streak lately because she's awesome too.
9. d. The Kiss Quotient series ~ will be perfect since I am ready to read the last book in that series (highly anticipated)
51. Same as #1.
So glad MKat said we could use state instead of town. I'm fine with either of our states, but I live in Louisiana (lol)
As for spying on the other teams, I wish I would have thought of it. I will take all of the help that you all willing to share, because I want to have fun, but maybe kick butt and the days are dwindling.
I am ago with all the things that will make this more efficient for us, so whoever has the skills to create something for us, please do.
@Maggie
Please make suggestions as much as possible we all need to be happy with what we choose or what's the point.
You mention several authors who I already like, so if we narrow the list down, then maybe we can set up a poll or rating them from most want to read to least???
@all
I hope that is not a confusing jumble of info. I was trying to reply to several of the post of above this. Please let me know if I missed something you guys said or asked.

I hope one of you are able to do it, if not let me know and I can get us set up as long as it's tomorrow since I return to work on Monday.

My town is super small in California. No books based here that I know of, but some Star Wars movies were filmed here as was birdbox, a Tim Mcgraw video and few car commercials 🤣🤣
Oh and I was born in 1980. We're gonna be reading some thick books haha.

MKat confirms we can use the state not just the town..
If so, we have Connecticut, California, Louisiana & skip me in Canada.
I'd say California or Louisiana.
Apologies ShanA re LA...don't know state abbreviations.

Thanks Mony. I deleted the things that didn't work from message 72, and now we'll wait for the other ladies to comment.
We are so close to having these few settled. You are all awesome!

I should have messaged earlier but had some company today.
I wanted to let you & others know that earlier today I worked on the list of tasks, including your & other's contributions where we need to make decisions.
It's in Message 7 and can be used a reference document for choices & decisions.
I took poetic license & put some possible answers for some those tasks...very fluid. These can all be changed...
If you think it's a good idea, we could ask the team to respond to all the choices laid out there. Then we would have all the info we need to go forward.
Let me know what you think

I am stepping down as captain. I think you are doing an amazing job and should continue to do so, plus during the week I will have even less time.
I will help with whatever you need, but I don't think that will be much.
Are you okay with captaining our ship?

Sorry - Like M I had to take a day to unplug, and then had to take today to run to some drs appointments.
I'll look at the Google docs and yes, I can help maintain them. I've found in all of these challenges that everyone visits other teams threads as they can.
As for captaining - I am fine with any of us captaining. I'm here to be supportive, read and have fun. That said - I just captained for the Bachelor challenge and I'm in my "taking a break" mode. It's a LOT ☺️
If dividing and conquering or assigning tasks or what not is better let me know, I'm on board.
As for reads - I will read anything for a challenge. As Laks knows. I read a few ... interesting ones for our Bachelor challenge. And I found that my teammates in that challenge had read some beauts for other challenges that they had done before as well ☺️
We're going to rock this thing. You'll see. It's a bit crazy at the start, then we get into it and then it will flow nicely.
I'll be on for a while tonight. One kid has sports, the other has a large amount of homework, and I want to get all of my other reads for other commitments logged prior to our task being called tomorrow so I can plan out me week.
We've got this!

Thanks Maggie about doing the google docs! You'll find the backbone information in message 7 for that. And for all the support you mention!
Many things will come up & I hope not to do all them!
I'll be sending out all the questions where we need to do a "shared" task to get your input & okay.
The challenge starts tomorrow - so I suppose the sooner the better to get your responses, although there is real life. :)

About #49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I had proposed Writing Dirty (pub. June 2020) because I thought we all had it on our TBRs. Sorry I missed it's not on yours.
So just need to read a book published June 2020. You have about 10-12 on your TBR that would cover that date. Work for you?

⭐ 75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter. ✅ WE CAN CHOOSE WHEN ASSIGNED - Agreed
A quick Google search supplied the following: "The most commonly used letters of the English language are e, t, a, i, o, n, s, h, and r." I think T, S or R may be good places to start.
⭐ 76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.
✅ OK? MAN or WOMAN - WE CAN CHOOSE WHEN ASSIGNED - Agreed - this one we may want to choose when assigned. MKat may have additional details (such as clothing) that will make our search a little more difficult. Better to start with general ideas and narrow down when assigned. I like starting with humans/human forms though.

3. 2019 Contemporary Romance Releases:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
*I'm choosing this one for two reasons:
1-The Best Single Father List is Heavily Kristen Ashley books. We already have her books tagged for two other non passable tasks. We can do rereads for the challenge, but we can't use the same book twice within the challenge. I'm worried about running out of books if we go with the Single Dad list.
2- When looking at the Sothern vs the 2019, the 2109 just has a wider scope of genres and books to pick from.
⭐ 94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years. ✅ 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21

Thanks Maggie & the useful comments!!

About #49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.

That works

Just as a time check/keep in mind....
This is from the main page:
First Task Assigned Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 6 PM US EDT.
That would be 5pm CST and 3pmPST - I don't think any of us were MST.
Sadly - I will be in my car, in the woods, at a boy scout meeting between 6pm - 8;30pm EST. (that sounds really weird and really bad when I write that out LOL)
My daughter's troop meets at their camp site this time of year. And it's a 45 minute car ride each way.
I'll have cell service/computer once I get home.
The thing we will want to keep in mind with this challenge is SPEED. What I learned from Laks last challenge is to go for the books that meet the minimum of the pages required and just dive in.
Per MKat's instructions -
There is a 150 page minimum for books, rereads and audios ok
Also, we'll want to keep track of what books we've logged for this challenge on the google docs because -
Books may only be used once per player during the challenge
AND
Players may read the same book for a task unless otherwise specified.
So this means that M and I could be reading Looking to Score (picking on Alley today) for the same task and it would be fine UNLESS it specifically states in MKat's write up that we need different books.
However, once we read that book. It's dead to us for this challenge.
Thus far MKat hasn't set a time limit around personal rereads. Meaning, I'm reading Elementary Romantic Calculus right now for PtP. In two weeks, this book may fit a task we are assigned.
As long as MKat hasn't specified a reread time frame I can reread the book for this challenge and it's fine.
Does this all make sense?
Also, I promise - the lead into the challenge is actually a little worse than the challenge itself. I also learned that with my last challenge. Once we get going, it will settle down.

0. Each teammate reads a book initially published in a fall month, teams decide which month.
As a team select a fall month. Fall this year is from September 22 through December 21 - so you may select September, October, November or December, then everyone reads a book initially published in the selected month of any year. For this task, use the initial publication date. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page - use it! Otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the selected month in your completion posts.
📚☺️ Please let me know title & author of your book 📚☺️
If you're having trouble, some short Xmas books are published in the fall months. My shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Reminder: Remember we only use the first edition Kindle page count for this challenge! If there is a page count listed on GR - that is the one that should be used. Only use Amazon if there is no Kindle page count listed here. If the page count listed on Amazon is different, it is likely a different edition.
