We've got rain heading here late tomorrow through early Tuesday I think - I'm looking forward to it!

MountainKat | 31684 comments Here is your next task!

Task 6 - 33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.

As a team select a sub-genre and than read 6 books in that sub-genre. Please include the selected sub-genre in your completion posts.

No Love Lost (Masters and Mercenaries The Forgotten, #5) by Lexi Blake
No Love Lost Lexi Blake
pages: 367 kindle edition
read: Oct 25
fits: MPG Romantic Suspense

I've waited for this book for a while. Ezra and Kim were married until she had his brother go on a mission and he was killed. For years, Ezra wanted nothing to do with Kim (after divorcing her). There are so many twists and turns in this story where we learn that Kim ran from Levi (a dirty agent). All the previous characters in this series get involved in this story. Great ending to the series.

Megan | 1025 comments I am reading a book, by the same author as Karen's read. Really enjoying it but think maybe should have started a different series first

message 209: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 1868 comments I don't remember if I've read anything by Lexi Blake or not, but Karen's review definitely makes me want to check this series out.

AliciaJ | 1868 comments Task 6: 33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide- Romantic Suspense

Book/cover link: Forgotten In Death Forgotten In Death (In Death #53) by J.D. Robb
Pages: 378/GR (kindle ed.)
How book fits: MPG Romantic Suspense
Date Completed: 10/27
Rating/Review: 4 stars
So this wasn't as exciting and fast paced as the last book, but it was still a good story, even if I guessed pretty quickly who the bad guys were. But it was a solid procedural, which I really enjoy. And it was nice for once to see Eve not drive herself to pure exhaustion trying to catch a killer. I guess I would say this was a quieter story, more thoughtful and more centrally focused on the actual police work rather than the relationship stuff so much. It was a nice change of pace.

Easy 5 star read.

I think I should have started with a different series but this was easily the best romance suspense I have read this year and in fairness to that genre I have liked a few.

This was the right blend of erotica and danger for me. Something I didn't realise I was missing from my reading list. I actually have audible to thank for that.

Thanks Megan-I fixed it. 😊

I'm reading another one too, but I may not get done until this weekend. Family stuff is really taking up a lot of my reading time, so I've slowed down quite a bit.

This book had a few short stories where we get to see Ian and Charlotte (my favorite couple) get through a few situations and the last story skips ahead quite a few years to introduce us to a couple and give a backstory on what will certainly be a future book. I really love this series.

I did enjoy going on another adventure with Dex, Sloane, and the gang. The bad guy was really bad, and there was plenty of excitement and drama to keep me intrigued with the story. And there was some surprises there that makes me think I'll go ahead and read the second book to find out what happens next.

AliciaJ | 1868 comments Completion posted. Hope you're all doing well. I've been down with the flu the past few days. But a really cool thing happened this morning. I had 4 baby deer show up in my front yard, nibbling on my bushes and eating the bird feed I put out. It was so cute! I just hope they don't get hit by cars, I live on a somewhat busy street.

message 222: by Laura (new)

Just back from a walk which turned into a little hike as we are at the bottom of a mountain. What a beautiful night for a walk.

MountainKat | 31684 comments I love Lexi Blake's books. I've found that her series, even with her pseudonym Sophie Oaks, overlap a lot. I found this list to be helpful and have been working on the ones I missed while waiting for audios of some of her newer books. 😉

I liked the new take on vampires and shifters in this series. While there are a lot of similarities between this and other vampire series books I've read, there are enough differences to keep it interesting and not have me put the book down in frustration. I did think the heroine gave in a bit too easily, I mean this guy appears out of nowhere and within a few days they're married and mated? Seemed a bit rushed to me, but it fit with the story so it was fine. I'll definitely be adding this series to my list to finish since I really did like the characters for the most part.

This was pretty good.
It did feel a bit fast. And I found her a little enthusiastic. I think it would have taken most people longer to come to that decision, unlike her who was quite quick to go for it. I'd have preferred it to be a little slower.

Review:
Dark. Very dark. But with a lot of gallows humor that was hilarious. But I gotta say, some of the killing scenes went a smidge beyond my comfort zone. I found myself flinching when the gore got to be a bit too bloody and the torture a teensy bit too gruesome. For a romance, this was a pretty deep dive into blood, guts, and gore. But there's no doubt I'll read the next books, they're definitely addictive.

Pages: 344
Rating: 3 Stars
Fits: naked back on cover.. towel dips fairly low
Review:
This didn't blow my mind but I've read worst.

It was a fun and different romance to read. The meeting between the characters was very interesting and cute. The twist if you will was awkward like it was intended.

The whole sex surrogacy thing was very interesting and I'm sort of morbidly curious if thats a real thing ha

Their Ruthless Sadist (Office Intrigue #5) by Nicole Edwards
Book: Their Ruthless Sadist Nicole Edwards
Pages: 442
How It Fits: See cover above
Date Read: 11/5
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Yikes! This book was definitely the darkest book of hers I've read yet. Zeke is a sadist and Brax and Case are two masochist submissives that love each other but they are looking for a Dom who is a Sadist for what they can't give each other. There is a lot of BDSM in this book which is fine but some of the torture to these two made me cringe...I did really love how the author turns things around and these three end up in love.
