Team Tock
Snapshot Rules
Books must be 160+pages
Audio only must be 4+hours
If your book has MPG Kids / Children / Poetry / PLays / Graphic or has Illustrated in the title or an Illustrator, it must be 40k words or 4 hours
Word count check: ONLY the ARBookfind service counts. There's .com, .co.uk and .com.au versions - any will work.
Spell out
Title / Series title (ignore or use the definite or indefinite articles as you prefer)
Author first / last name
Character first / last / nick name (speaking, plot-relevant character)
IF Audio - Narrator first / last name
IF Translated - Translator first / last name
Strategy
Long books give us more points!
We have a team cap (65.5 books per round + 10%) It's a team cap, so if you are going to overread, say, so that others can shift to a longer book or pre-read a long book for the next round.
If we are going to cover close to the cap Danielle and I may start bumping short books in favour of longer ones
We'll use a tracking sheet - put all the letters your book works for in the sheet and then we will put your book where it works best. We'll look to fill in tricky letters first, through the target number of spell-outs, and then others.
If your book works for multiple letters it might not be placed immediately, so we can take advantage of the flexibilty
BOMs
BOMs are fun, and - even better - sources of significant points! Do sign up for DQs if you are interested, the more volunteers the greater chance we have of being lucky!
October YA - House of Hollow starts 16 October. Cat's got a set of DQs guaranteed
November polls are open for another couple of days - vote here

Reporting Our Books
We'll be using a team tracking sheet that everyone can edit (the official team sheet is limited to just Danielle & I)
You can add books when you start them, when you finish them, or even when you decide you'll be reading them for the round - there's a dropdown to indicate where you are with the book.
Add information on which letters the book works for, and why in the relevant columns, and make a note of any bonus points it will work for.
As long as you keep the status, and read date of your books up-to-date it's not essential to post completions here, though you are very welcome to, especially if it's a good read!
If you don't want to use the sheet then just post a completion post here with the necessary info (link to the edition of the book you read, page count, letters and reasons and the date you finished it)
In all instances, when you finish your book can you make sure you shelve it on your Wheel shelf - it makes it easier for Danielle and I to do the checks and to make sure we don't miss any books!
The Tracker Sheet is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
(I'll also abuse my mod powers and add it to post 1)

Hello everyone! Welcome to Team Tock for this exciting Wheel-a-Thon, where each round looks back to a former incarnation of the challenge.
I'm Cat (she/her), your captain for this one! I think everyone here has played in team challenges before - please correct me if I'm wrong. The key point is that this is fun, and a couple of guidelines help keep it fun for everyone:
1) check in here once a week, just to let us know you are still about or PM me or Danielle if you are having real life issues.
2) be kind to each other when posting
Anyway, I'm based in London, read all sorts, and have a fondness for The Phantom Tollbooth that makes me very happy to be Team Tock!
I'm currently about 3/4s through a Discworld re-read which makes me both happy - coming up into the Tiffany Aching and Moist sub-series - and sad - coming up to the end of the series. I will be good for nothing when I start The Shepherd's Crown!
I'm generally a mood reader, but use team or individual challenges (like SRC) to help pick what books to read, and have a small pile of tricky books ready to read - is it strange that I'm hoping for a Z or Q at some point this challenge?!
I've been involved in the Wheel challenges since the Wobble version - enough so that I'm over the trauma that the Wobble colour tasks (SO. Many. Brown books!) now :)
Please quickly introduce yourselves - we've a week to get settled into the team and get to grips with the challenge - I, for one, can't wait!

I’ve played all the Wheels and yes so many brown books in one version.
I’m a mainly a mood reader, but do like some challenge guidelines to pick books. Romance is my go to, but I do like some Fantasy too. I’m hoping to read some longer fantasy books during this, but we’ll see.
Excited for this round to start.

I am ready to rumble. I have updated my other challenges so that I can concentrate on here. I am not good at putting aside awkward letters but I do have possibilities
If anyone struggles to access books can I recommend Zlibrary which is a phenomenal free resource

Hi Tati! Excited to play with you too!
Hi Marie - are you ahead of the curve on SRC already?! I might have bitten off more than I should - signed up for the Game Night Turf War plus Hooked on Books Theme War. Though they will take a back seat to the needs of the Wheel, don't worry team!

I'm Sassafrass. I'm from the East Coast of the United States right outside of Philadelphia.
I'm mostly a romance reader but will read other things when a group read or challenge come up.
I've been extremely busy the 18 months because I work in healthcare so my reading has been hit or miss. I used to read about 20 books per month and I've been reduced to single digits most months.
I'm looking forward to the antics Wheel brings though. I'm wondering if there will be any brown shorts books this time! LOL

I am at about half points BUT there are a lot of tasks i just don't like this season - I am sick of dogs and the ones that are very limited like choosing off someone else's shelf. I am not bothered about finishing I think we have all proved ourselves in SRC.
I haven't got much else except year long challenges on at the minute. I am looking forward to some longer books and some chat alongside the reading.

I totally am looking forward to getting out those saved up tricky letter books. Bring on the Xs!

I'm Claire from little Belgium.
I'm so happy to play another round of the Wheel-a-thon. I think my first group challenge was a wheel here.
I read quite diversely, but I read mostly fantasy, UF, and MM romance. I can normally read a lot in a month, but I just started a new job and have to get used to this new rythm, so I might not read as much in the beginning of the challenge. I'll do my best in any case.
One of the first books I'm planning to read is The Empire of Gold, so that should bring us quite a few points. Like some of you, I'm hoping this challenge will shake me up and make me read the big fantasy books that are just gathering dust on my shelves.

Hi Claire My son and daughter in law were based in Belgium for a few years. He is in the RAF. I love Ghent and Bruges

I love Bruges as well <3 Ghent I haven't been to in a while. I think the last time was with a schooltrip in high school... oops !

I have done a few Wheels and TTs. I honestly thought that that one wheel was actually based on brown. 🤣
I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi. Though I'm doing the Pantheon challenge in AMMP, I will make that work around this challenge.
I look forward to reading with you all.
Welcome everyone!
Can you all let me know that you can find and use the tracking sheet (at the bottom of the first post, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...) and confirm your wheel shelf :)
Our first word is BLACK CORAL, so start turning up books to fit those letters please :)
This round, we also get bonus point for 5 books with a wheel on the cover - bike wheels, ferris wheels, any wheel that turns will work. It doesn't have to be complete, but does need to be partially on the cover.
I'm going to be reading the October Adult BOM, which is a K at least :)

I can use the tracking sheet without issues.
Here is my shelf for the challenge: Challenge-Wheels6
I'll have a look at my shelved for book for Black Coral.
I know already I'll be rereading On the Edge, buddy reading it with Sonia :)

My wheel shelf is: wheely-wheelie
I too will be reading the YA BOM
I'll also be starting on Outlander which would count for O, C (claire) and I'm sure other letters. I should be done that one by end of the first round.
I'm reading the adult BOM at the moment. I was SO glad that I finished section 2 during daylight hours - too terrifying to let me sleep if it was the last thing I read before sleep!

I am pretty busy with work, children, Husbands and all life in general but I am trying my best to read as much as I can.

I can't say I am enamoured by the BOMs for october hoping November will be better
I should be able to cover any of the letters for this round
I could startThe Princes of Ireland Edward Rutherfurdwhich is a big book and if I come across harder letters let it take longer to read
will put some books on SS later

I'm not a big fan of horror either. Be it in book or movie form.
Not that I'm easily scared, I just don't get much enjoyment from it.

The Visitors by Sally Beauman ( might want to keep for V)
I have 2 books by Chris Nickson for
The Echo Chamber by John Boyne
A Corruption of Blood by Ambrose ParryDeception Point Dan Brown

I can access the tracking ss, put a couple of books I know I'll be reading on. Will add links and pages once I actually start reading and find the right editions, can't be bothered to hunt the right ones down ahead of time, haha.
Thank you Cat, for explaining where our team name came from. Phantom Tollbooth passed me by as a kid and although I've become aware of it as an adult, never got around to reading it.
My shelf is wheel-6.

Ooh, that is a bit of a ringing endorsement. I'm not usually a horror fan but it's October and now I'm in the mood for Scary.
If we read this BOM (the adult one) does it count for points for Wheel or no?

No, as the BOM started outside of Wheel.

I've got A Bad Day for Sunshine, Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs with Adam, and The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton in my immediate to read pile.
