If anyone needs to message me, please just request to be my friend and say that you are in PBT and we'll be good to go!

If anyone needs to message me, please just request to be my friend and say that you are in PBT and we'll be good to go!"
Hi Nicole! I tried both and neither worked. It didn't even offer the option of a message when clicking on "add friend". I left a message on the PBT Fly the Skies September thread instead. :)

BUT .. you can click on the HELP link at the very bottom of this page and go from there. It's a bit convoluted (if memory serves .. haven't tried it today), but there is a way to "contact us" and get a form to send an emgil to GR support. SHEESH

I went into my settings to allow friend requests and PMs and got it! So complicated!
No, it let me click "add friend" multiple times but nothing happened. Ah well, great to be friends with you now!

Go into your profile ACCOUNT SETTINGS, Amy.
You'll see Profile Settings Emails Feeds ....(etc) at the top
Click on the SETTINGS.
Scroll down to Who Can Send Me Private Messages
click on "ANYONE"
I moderate several groups. I really do NOT want to be friends with thousands of members just so I can send them a blast message about a new poll, or challenge.

Or, Nicole, you can change your privacy settings to allow PM from anyone (which it probably was previously ... that allows any PBT member to message you, not just those who requested your friendship).

Of course now I will have to see about PM'g someone.

I'm ignoring it for now. Not in a head space to deal with GR screw ups right now!

If anyone needs to message me, please just request to be my friend and say that you are in PBT and we'll be good to go!"
I was able to change my setting, and it stayed even after logging out and then back in again.

This is what I've done. Thanks for the instructions on where to go to do that, BC.
That being said, I am happy to be "friends" with anyone here, as well. :-)
It's just dumb luck that I saw this message tonight, so please share this with other groups and moderators to make people aware. If a moderator hasn't already signed up to join the moderator support group, I'm not sure their request to join will even get through right now.

Shaz | 34 commentsJust in case you are wondering why things seem so quiet, or why you are receiving friend requests rather than PMs from members in your group, well here's the answer: Goodreads has changed everyone's privacy settings. Yes, without notice everyone's settings have been changed. Now you will only be able to receive PMs from friends, unless you change them back again of course.
I'm assuming they did this in a (misguided) attempt to combat spam, hoping everyone would think they'd found a way to stop the spammers from joining. However as a Mod I personally feel I need to be able to be reachable by the members of my group. And it helps to be able to PM a member who either needs assistance, or is somewhat misbehaving but doesn't really need to be called out in the group as such. I just thought you might like to let your members know what has happened or at least have an answer for them if it's asked in the group.

They also discussed outside links and pictures. I don't know if surveys would be affected by this.
I don't think I ever noticed a Spam direct message, but I've received some weird friend requests. I ask a simple question now to anyone who sends a friend request - Something like "how do we know each other." BTW, if you'd like to friend me, "PBT" is all you need to say. If it still works that is.
