✂️trim✂️

/trɪm/

verb: make (something) neat or of the required size or form by cutting away irregular or unwanted parts.

noun: an act of cutting something in order to neaten it.

∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞

A regular bookshelf has 4 sides so we are going to "trim" its 4 "sides" (ie. 4 different ways).

1. How many?!?!
Look at the total number of your TBR, take the last digit and read that many books off your TBR. If you have a "0", read 10 books.
Try to read what's already on your TBR prior to starting this challenge. You may concentrate on a certain TBR shelf if you have a number of TBR shelves.

2. Share the love
Sort your TBR by one (1) of the following options:
✂️ "num ratings"
✂️ "avg rating"
✂️ "date added"
✂️ "date pub"

and read:
a. Books with the highest number / most recent date
b. Books with the least number / oldest date
Try to read the same number of books (a+b) as you did for (1) above, if not more.

3. Monstrosity
Read 1 (one) of the 5 thickest books on your TBR.
Yes, the biggest book and just the One. If the thickest is 1,000+ pages but the 5th thickest is only 300+ pages, DO choose the book closest to 1,000+ pages

4. Catch Up
Read that last book in the series!
Or at least, catch up to the latest instalment.
You must have read at least the first book before October 2021. Again, try to read the same number of book you read for (1), if not more.

∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞ ∞

This is an open ended challenge so you're welcome to start anytime and finish anytime you like.

Any book on your TBR counts for this so let's get that number down!

Gee, I am confused! I looked back at the TRIM that I am working on and it is labelled 2020! (However, I did notice that it was posted December 2020, so I do not feel too bad.)

I still have 4 on that one to go. Oh, well.

I will be back to start this one.

Me too, Bea! The one labelled 2020 that I am working on started 1/1/21 and finishes 31/12/21. So I guess that my Trim 2021, will run from 1/1/22 :)

Sorry, I changed the name of that thread to 'separate' it from this one. I put 2020 because that's when it was posted...

Sounds good, Tien. I don't own it, so it will have to be a library loan. However, my local library has it, so that will mean a 3 week loan with one renewal. A total of 6 weeks if needed.

I will watch for the Buddy thread.

Add me to the confused ones!! I usually think of the challenge years as when the reading actually takes place rather than when posted so it threw me for a loop as well! But since it's all open-ended, I guess it doesn't really matter :-)

Each time we are nearing the last few months of the year, I feel like I haven't tackled by physical TBR that well (happens every year!!) and that's when I usually dusted TRIM off and post lol

It's to push me to read off my physical TBR as much as I can before year ends but I'm leaving it open ended as it is a lot of pressure otherwise ;)

And... I'm done with this one this year! Woot 19 physical books off TBR, I'm stoked!

Oh, somehow I nearly missed that this was a new one. The question of 2021 vs 2022, I guess. I think I'll start it Jan 1, 2022. And I'll have to label my personal notes about it as TRIM 2021-22, to keep from getting confused the next time it comes around. TRIM is one of the challenges I really love.

Here, I think, Christina. I suspect the 2022 TRIM will be posted late in the year.

At least that's what I'll be doing.

Christina, good news! The Part #2 only needs a total of 11, so you can eliminate half of your list for that part.

Hm, I'm tempted to do a second round to help push me to read my own tbr...

message 35: by Lagullande (new)

Lagullande | 484 comments Hi Tien. I've got a question about:

"4. Catch Up
Read that last book in the series!
Or at least, catch up to the latest instalment."

Does it mean that you're supposed to finish off a series? My goal is 3 books, but I don't have any series that (a) I have already started and (b) only have 3 books left.

message 36: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Yes, you're to finish off or just catch up with series you've already started. It doesn't mean you have to read all 3 books from 1 particular series though. I read 6 books and each from different series... I should look to rewording this next time around :)

Thanks, Tien. I think I was over-complicating things. I took a look at the books you read and I now see that we just need to read any book from a series (or several) we already started.
