Finished prompt 1 - main character starting with ATY
Read The People We Keep, which features a character named April. I liked it well enough, but the ending saved it from being a 3 star read and bumped it to 3.5. The cover is gorgeous so I'm not upset that I own it lol

Finished prompt 2 - connected to a book from 2021
I read Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge, which was not the book I was intending to read for this prompt. Feels a bit early in the challenge to already go off-plan, but I didn't have the two books I had planned on reading on hand when I was ready to start it.
This book was picked as a BOTM pick in the same month as People We Meet on Vacation, which I read last year.
I'm 2 for 2 on beautiful covers for this challenge!

Completed prompt 3 - book with 22+ letters in the title
I just finished Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune and it was DELIGHTFUL. This is another one I wasn't planning on reading for ATY, but I wanted to pick it up, and it has exactly 22 letters so I'm letting the plan goooo.
Really enjoying knocking out books that I own. That was a surprise goal I ended up setting for myself at the beginning of the year, and it's worked well for me so far.

Finished prompt 4! I used the Goodreads Choice Award reject prompt, because I love it and I was sad it didn't get in.
I read Beautiful World, Where Are You, which is a book I would not have picked up if not for the Tournament of Books. I'm really glad I read it though... it's my first 5 star read of the year!

Completed prompt 5 - author with double letters in their name
I read Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy, which is my IRL book club's pick for January. This book was BRUTAL and I'm afraid is stuck in my head for the rest of eternity. I hated it, I loved it, I'm not sure I can recommend it to anyone, unless they are willing to look at their feelings hard.

Just finished prompt 6 - source of light on cover
I have been eyeing Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko for a while, and I finally received it for a Christmas present. I knew I wanted to use it to kick of Black History Month, and it was a good start to February... a bit more YA in its writing style than I expected, but still solid, and I plan on starting the second in the series immediately.

Completed prompt 7 - related to psychology and the mind
I was determined to tackle The Bone Season this year after it couldn't make it to the list last year, and this prompt was perfect for it. A group of people who can get into other's dreamscapes and see their mind? Yes perfect. The book was a lot more YA than I wanted it to be, and the storyline was a little more chaotic. I don't think I'll be continuing the series, but I am glad I read it.

Finished prompt 8, the first of my continent prompts
I picked up Peach Blossom Spring by Melissa Fu from BOTM this month, knowing it would fit perfectly in this position. It definitely told the story of Asia, China, Taiwan, while blending with an immigrant story in America. Really enjoyed all the points of view in this multigenerational story.

Completed prompt 9, the second of the continent prompts
I picked up The Girl Who Smiled Beads: A Story of War and What Comes After by Clemantine Wamariya on a whim when the other book I had planned in this spot wasn't available on audio. And WOW I'm glad I did. It was so powerful, so gut wrenching, and so unexpected. I loved it.

Whew. I've caught up through the end of May, but I am definitely not going back and writing reviews for all of those books haha! Let's see if I can stay on top if it from here on out.

2021: Read however I want, completed the challenge twice
2020: Pulled prompts from a jar randomly and read in that order
2019: Read in list order
2018: Read however I want
2017: First attempt, just get it done!
So this year I'm going back to reading in list order, trying to stick to the months (so only 5 ATY books in January, only 4 in February, etc.). I think it will help me pace myself while also giving me some flexibility with my side reads, since I normally finish 7-9 books a month. We will see how that goes!
