We each have our favourite tips for saving energy. Let's share.
Cutting power use not only reduces carbon use, it saves money.
A reduced load on metropolitan power supply can avoid blackouts at peak load times.

To start us off saving energy, here is a short list from Make Use Of.
I don't see anything I didn't know, but a reminder is helpful, and some of these don't apply to my home, but they might apply to yours.

LED lights are my first rec, and A++ rated new appliances when you change appliances.

Gizmodo reminds us that during America's Great Depression, the people who survived learnt useful lessons we can still put into practice. And if you don't know how to cook or mend, or count pennies, today is a good time to start.

"Conserve everything
From your electricity usage to your water bill, cutting back and paying attention to how much you’re spending on utilities can make a big difference. It can seem like you’re nibbling away at everything that makes life more comfortable (and therefore more bearable), but setting your thermostat lower in the winters and higher in the summers, turning off lights and gadgets you’re not using (and unplugging appliances when you won’t be using them for a long time) can make a big difference in your monthly bills."

Cleaning filters on your dishwasher, washing machine (the rubber strip just inside the door collects fluff and buttons), and tumble dryers, makes the machine run more efficiently and prolongs its useful life. Using the same machine saves huge amounts of energy over buying a new one.

Here are three ways to re-use dryer lint. I would light the fire with it.

An energy provider is currently running tv ads, showing a comfortable family home in which everyone wears t-shirts and shirts, while wondering where the power is going as the bill is so high. The culprits are suggested to be the tumble dryer, tv left on standby, radiator turned too high.

Everyone I know is wearing fleece jackets around the house all winter.

Another energy provider highlights that the power you would buy from them is generated from renewables, so you can feel good about using it. They don't seem to recommend saving power.

The way to use less carbon and pay less money, is to use less energy. Start by putting on another layer of clothes.
