Hi, everyone! As I've mentioned in the announcement messages lately, I'm working on a whole new set of themes for 2022 and I'd love your help! If you have any theme suggestions you'd like to see, please drop them in this thread or DM me!

You don't have to tie your suggestions to a specific month or anything - you can just say "a month dedicated to thrillers" or "a month dedicated to short books" or whatever you fancy. I'd love your input, friends! ♥

Thank you for being awesome and being a part of this group!

Krystal (krystallee6363) How about more international authors? Or books with object themes or specific covers or something random like that?

Thanks, Krystal, I like these! ♥

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) We could do thematic ones for each month. For example:

JANUARY: Self-Help/Nonfiction/Motivation books so we can start the year properly.
FEBRUARY: The month of Love, so we could do some romance books or books with hint of romance for non-romance readers (like me in general).
MARCH: It's Spring, so the nature comes back to life and the sun shines brighter. We could read some contemporaries, books with light covers or light books, etc.
APRIL: Some Fantasy books with epic worlds.
MAY: What about some mysteries and thrillers?
JUNE: I believe it's LGBTQ month so why not?
JULY: It's very hot outside and we need some fresh clean air. What about going into Space and read some Sci-Fi books? (Although I know this theme is already like this)
AUGUST: Summer is slowly ending, we could read some historical fiction, historical romance. Or because we already passed half of the year, we can just tackle down some books in the theme of OWNTober and finish what we already own.
SEPTEMBER: Some Middle-Grade to support kids who start school in this time period? Or some childrens books.
OCTOBER: It's all about Halloween so spooky/eerie/horror books are most welcome!
NOVEMBER: I like your idea of Remember November and start getting done some previous books from readathons etc.
DECEMBER: All about winter-y/Christmas-y vibes! Anything cheerful and cold settings. (I host @magicathon so hop in :D ).

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) Or we can do as Krystal suggested and create diverse prompts like: Books with blue covers in December, Books with royale theme for May, Books with beverages on the cover for February or Books that have the word "moon" in the title for July.

These are just some ideas.

Thank you very much, @Tamara!

Susy (susysstories) The more general the better so it’s easily combined with readathons.
I like a clear up your TBR very much so wouldn’t mind that twice a year, one of the months being December so you can start a clean slate in January.

October is definitely Spooktober 👻 (thrillers, mysteries and horror).

I think just one genre is too specific for me and one color cover for the entire month not quite doable I think….? Lightcovers like Dana suggested (or dark ones) work better.

I love everything about this except the weather related ones lol since I'm in the Southern hemisphere!

Yes, fair enough! The more options, the better! Thank you for pointing this one out ^^.

Cordelia Not trying to cause any trouble (I'm part of the community myself) but I think that we should stick to a general diversity month like we already have instead of doing one specifically for lgbtq. Lots of minority groups have themed months so singling out one isn't a good idea. General is good too because people can decide what that means to them, like for example I'm also part of a minority group that never really gets thought of but there's a lot of great literature for and I can choose to represent that.

Sounds good.
I’m all for broader/general themes because that also means people have more of a choice what they pick to read which makes participation easier.

Thanks for the input! I haven't made any final decisions yet on monthly themes surrounding marginalized groups for exactly this reason — it's a bit tough when you can't focus on every group equally.

If we do more generalized diversity themes, I'm considering the idea of four separate diversity-themed months, one per season/quarter:
- LGBTQ+
- BIPOC
- disability & body diversity
- mental health

Just something I'm tossing around in my noggin right now. 😊

To give you all a little bit more insight, while I'm at it, I'll go ahead and confirm that I'm aiming for half the year or less focusing on genre-specific themes. I personally am not a big fan of focusing on one genre for an entire month (mostly because it's a guaranteed way to put myself into a slump) and I don't love how genre-specific months can exclude readers who don't like that genre at all, so we probably won't have a ton of months surrounding specific genres.

Also, just in case anyone else is as hyped as I am... I have 11 of the 12 themes plotted out right now 👀

My goal is to announce the final 2022 lineup in a few weeks when we start the Diverse December challenge! 😊

Jamie wrote: "I don't know if it's been suggested but what about playing a tbr game, book jar, blind pick or pet pick(for those with pets)? Or we could do one where you read the books you own that you don't want..."

I’m all for any themes that help clear my TBR, especially the owned books lol

Okay everyone, I'm closing this thread now because I've posted the 2022 challenge themes here! Thank you all SO MUCH for your help! I'm sure you'll notice quite a few of the themes I settled on were inspired by your suggestions, so seriously, thank you all very much for commenting and offering ideas. ♥
