I was looking at this series since all the books are at my library. I'm never sure about reading her 1980s series. Sometimes they frustrate me.

I had serious issues with the books at the beginning. They were those old romance stories where the men grabbed and manhandled the women into romance and those were big turnoffs. At book #5, the writing took a nice turn and I enjoyed everything from then on.

I had this reaction as well when I started the first book in the MacGregors. I had to stop listening because it annoyed me so much.
