Welcome to our 83 new members! If you haven’t introduced yourself yet, head over to Introduce Yourself.

Okay Boxall Group Members – we have a very important task for each of you! Ellinor has been policing our Listopia list (1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die) and has removed unofficial books added without permission by an author and her friends. We need to get some additional votes for the last books on the list (the first several hundred have plenty) so the books do not disappear if a voter removes their Goodreads account. Each of you has 100 votes, so please go to the list and use your votes at the end of the list!! Work backward from page 14 until you have used all of your votes. Don’t worry about counting; Goodreads will keep track of that for you. And this will not prevent you from voting on other lists; you have 100 votes for each list.
Here is the link to Page 14 of the list -- https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...
But, please do not add or remove any books from the list!!

19,268 members as of January 1 / 19,411 as of February 1

Welcome to our 143 new members! If you haven’t introduced yourself yet, head over to Introduce Yourself.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

The 1001 Year-Long Book Study 2023 is here! This book has been chosen from a suggestion by Michelle . . . . Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady by Samuel Richardson.

Michelle wrote -- “Hi mods and everyone - I have a suggestion for a big book read for 2023 - from this TikTok post https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS8BSWdb7/ from [@]hernryeliot who is doing a readalong of Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady by Samuel Richardson.

“Apparently in 2023 the date of each letter lines up with the exact days of the week so it's a readalong by date! It's the longest novel written in the English language so extra motivation to read it will be nice! I'm going to do the readalong and thought other 1001 peeps might be interested, or it might make a good big read for the year.”

The reading schedule is for the entire year of 2023. The First Six Letters are written from January 10th to January 20th. The next 4 are written from February 20th to February 27th . So you have plenty of time to catch up!!

First published on January 1, 1748, Clarissa is the longest novel in the English language at over 950,000 words. In 2013, The Guardian ranked Clarissa as #4 on the 100 Best Novels Written in English, and the BBC, in 2015 ranked Clarissa 14th on its list of the 100 greatest British novels.

Clarissa was released in serialized form starting in 1747 and finishing in 1748. So this year marks the 275th Anniversary of the book’s publication.

The Big-Book Study 2022 of War and Peace finished at the end of December.

Check out the folder Kutuzovskaya premiya za vynoslivost (The Kutuzov Prize for Endurance) to claim your Award for completing Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece, War and Peace.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Big-Book Study Poll (2024)
Time to start thinking about what heavy tome we want to read for 2024. For 2024, the Moderators have chosen a range of books from the 1800s and 1900s with different nationalities and a balance between male and female authors. Honestly, how many of us who are trying to complete the list have the time to re-read the long books – certainly not your Moderators – and we want to do a good job at leading the discussion. We will have a run-off between the top two books in November which gives everyone time to plan if you are participating in the Big-Book Study.
The books chosen are:
The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni (1827, Italian)
Middlemarch by George Eliot (1871-1872, English)
Pharaoh by Bolesław Prus (1895, Polish)
Finnegans Wake by James Joyce (1939, Irish)
The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing (1962, British)
Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie (1981, Indian-British)
Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang (1991, Chinese-British)
