Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments You'll see some changes over the next month while I prepare for the 2022 annual challenge. Goodreads only allows for 3 new topics per session, so you'll see lots of "reserved" topics sprout up. When I'm ready to post, I will just edit those posts.

So, already there was a clue and that was to dust off your passports. This is going to be a tough challenge.

Kristie | 19165 comments Oh gosh... a tough one. I haven't even managed my first badge this year! I will focus next year!!

message 3: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I’m right there with you Kristie, but we’ve still got a little time. And for next year, I resolve to read with more purpose, and not get distracted by all of the pretty books lol

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Yes, Goodreads has made it difficult to make new topics, because of the spamming. I think it takes a couple of hours before you can post topics again.

And yes, a new challenge! I'm trying to reach my goal for this year, though...

message 5: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I was just thinking yesterday that it was about time for a hint. I like it! Are we going to travel? My favourite thing!

Oh, how exciting! 2022 will be your first challenge. :) They are so fun!

It was so much fun!

message 13: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 592 comments I'm excited too. I love the challenges Janice comes up with. I only finished one badge this year, but recently have decided to make a push to try to get the 2nd one done.

Can't wait to see what 2022 will bring!

Ayacchi | 1726 comments Now I know the feeling when I haven't finished my challenge yet I'm excited to see the next!

Katrisa | 4463 comments yay! so excited!

message 16: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11636 comments Oh I can't wait! I got very excited when I saw saw all the new threads though I know in my heart it was too early. It can't be a continental challenge, you've had one of those before my time. Maybe capital cities or land marks :-/

Whatever it is it will be awesome and creative in true Janice style!

message 17: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments Hannah wrote: "I have been secretly stalking everyone's reporting threads for the 2021 challenge to see how they are laid out and of course, books that are being read!!.."

The structure will be similar this year where you will need your own thread to track the books you're reading, so looking over those threads will be helpful in that respect. However, it can be dangerous too. How many books ended up on your wishlist.

message 18: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments I haven't seen any guesses about next year's theme. So you need another hint, perhaps.

You can do this with a group, or by yourself. It's just more fun with a group.

Pub Crawls around the world? ☺

message 20: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Nov 05, 2021 07:27AM) (new)

Kristie | 19165 comments Oh, I found a new hint!!! Janice just posted a thread, "topic: Oops! I got off the bus in the wrong spot." Let the guessing commence!

Edit: and her first comment is, "And look what I found!"

message 21: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19165 comments Good guess, Almeta! We know it's not museums. lol

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments LOL! Wouldn't that surprise you if I found 40 more museums to visit?

message 23: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19165 comments LOL! Yes, it would!!

message 24: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann (bellabellacat) | 160 comments I've been wondering what 2022 will bring and am excited to find out. I've thoroughly enjoyed past 2 challenges.

message 25: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments Sounds like a worldwide scavenger hunt to me. Needs a passport. Something like geocaching.

message 26: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann (bellabellacat) | 160 comments Janice wrote: "LOL! Wouldn't that surprise you if I found 40 more museums to visit?"

That would be fine with me!

message 27: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments If we're on a bus, it might be a challenge specific to a region or country?

message 28: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4523 comments Im so excited for a new challenge. I wonder if it could be something like geocaching.

message 29: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11265 comments The getting off the bus in the wrong spot and finding something accidentally suggests a component of chance, randomness. Maybe not everything will be as planned as usual? Maybe some tasks/books will be "accidentally" found?

message 30: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds interesting Sandra!

message 31: by Gunit Kaur (last edited Nov 05, 2021 09:13AM) (new)

Gunit Kaur Kalada | 407 comments Yay!! I think I might make it to Badge 2 this year, and it was really fun!
I am already so excited for 2022! I wonder what this year's challenge will be like...

message 32: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19165 comments I was wondering if the wrong bus thread was meant for books you find accidentally that might fit a task?? It would be a great place for other members to get ideas.

message 33: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11265 comments That is a good idea, Kristie.

So intriguing. The yearly challenges for following years should be posted in July. :D

Haha... If that happened we'd probably spend more time on planning than reading... :D

It takes me about 6 months to plan. I do a little here and then until I get to this stage, and then it's full on finalizing things.

Sue Q | 334 comments Janice wrote:

6 months! WHOA! Can I just say how much I appreciate these challenges! Thank you soooo much for your hard work!

I think we need to start giving badges for task creators too, if you don't already get them.

message 38: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Janice is a wizard :D

And as much as I want to jump in here, I need to be super focused on this year's challenge.

But I love the thoughts and hints. Sounds like it may be the vicarious travel we are all needing!

message 39: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11265 comments Janice, I know it takes a long time and lot of effort to prepare such massive and complex challenges. And you also spend the whole year tracking people's progress, posting badges, answering questions. I'm joking about our anxiety and excitement when we know the new challenge is coming. I'm sure if it were posted in July we will be asking for clues on April.

message 40: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 06, 2021 07:43AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments LOL! Not to worry, Sandra. I didn't feel pressured by your comments.

I would say the crunch for me is November when I finalize my scribbly notes into something cohesive, and then December/January once everyone starts gophering and asking questions. Tracking the challenge only takes a little bit each day.

Last year, the addition of an interactive element was a game changer for all of us and caused a bit of confusion. But now that you're all used to it, I'm sure you will be eager to pop off the bus.

You have us pampered, that is for sure. And we YLTOers are naughty, besides adorable, optimistic and humble. ;)

Oh man! Sounds like your going to make us work for it this coming year. Making my own tasks was a new challenge. I was thinking scavenger hunt also.

message 43: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I’m thinking it sounds like a tour bus, not sure how it would fit, but it is more fun to do with a group, but can totally be done solo . . . just have to wait and see, I guess lol

message 44: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2423 comments Sounds exciting!

That's a good idea, Jenn! I'm terrible at guessing these. lol

I was thinking tour bus, as well. Or maybe a cruise, with tours around local land spots.

message 47: by Odette (new)

Odette (odman) | 997 comments It does sound an exciting challenge and looking forward to it!
Maybe bus tours of different continents/countries?

message 48: by Ayacchi (new)

Ayacchi | 1726 comments Tour sounds great! Why am I imagining treasure hunt? Lol. I'm curious about the initial R. Is that our hint? Like.. race? XD
