SuperKimbit | 59 comments I really enjoyed this. I had never heard about Redbone and as a Canadian had a limited knowledge of some of the historical battles Indigenous peoples had in the US. I liked the way the story was told as well, with dips into the present day.

I enjoyed the art style. I had read ahead of time that some folks found it hard to follow the flow of the panels but I never had an issue with it. I do hate when that happens though. I don't think the art was very memorable though.

Russell | 80 comments I like biography and autobiography GN's in general so I really enjoyed this. I knew of the band already as I am a fan of American prog rock from the 1960-70's (especially minority bands), but never really dived into the background or experience of the band or its members.

@Superkim I am with the folx that said they got a bit confused. The flow of the story seemed to jump around a bit and I wasn't sure sometimes what was present day and what was narration, but I figured it out eventually.

I am glad this story got told. The groundbreaking that these guys did for the Native community is incredible. The music that they wrote was authentic to their cultural experience and they refused to back down about the crime's that have been committed by the U.S. government and white people and culture. It was a good book :)

Andréa (fernandie) | 913 comments I'm impressed both of you knew of the band before this book; I hadn't heard of them until this book came out.

SuperKimbit | 59 comments Oh I didn't know them! I only knew the one single (that was in Guardian's of the Galaxy) but I hadn't realized it was them.

I am not sure why I didn't have trouble with this when so many other have. Now its been too long so I forget even how the narration was done! haha clearly not the most memorable graphic novel for me...

Andréa (fernandie) | 913 comments oh, lol, I misread your comment and thought you had said you HAD heard of them!

Russell | 80 comments @Kim, you just have natural GN literacy skills!

Russell | 80 comments @Andrè, I hoped you listened to their music! Or at least their top grossing hits! They tell stories in their song. It was their way of taking back their power.

I will! I'm disappointed that I hadn't heard of them earlier.
